Apple just put a date on the biggest iPhone launch in years.
The company has invited members of the press to an event at Apple Park scheduled for September 9, which is where we expect to see the iPhone 18 Pro and the very first foldable iPhone. The event is set to kick off at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET that day, with the keynote also streaming online. It will be the first event under John Ternus, whose tenure as Chief Executive Officer at Apple begins on September 1.
☀️ Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event: what to expect
This event is expected to be jam-packed with announcements. Here’s a breakdown of everything we think we’re going to see, according to leaks.
📱 iPhone Fold (a.k.a. iPhone Ultra). Apple is expected to finally enter the folding phone market with the first iPhone Fold this year. Also known as the iPhone Ultra, the device is expected to adopt a passport-style shape similar to the new Galaxy Z Fold 8. It’ll have a 5.5-inch cover display with a crease-free 7.8-inch folding screen, complete with iPad-like multitasking and wider layouts for apps. It’s expected to come with two rear cameras, two color choices (dark blue or silver), and one high price tag of $2,000+. It’s one of the most anticipated new Apple products in the company’s history, and it looks like we’re only a couple weeks away from seeing it.
📱 iPhone 18 Pro & Pro Max. Apple is also expected to announce the new iPhone 18 Pro series at the event, with an updated Pro and Pro Max to succeed the current iPhone 17 Pro. The phones will look largely the same, save for a tiny adjustment to the thickness to accommodate even bigger batteries. The rear cameras are expected to get an adjustable aperture for better control over how much light hits the sensor, and they could include the rumored A20 Pro chip with better cooling and efficiency. What’s more, Apple is also expected to ship them in four new colors: a dark cherry red, a baby blue, silver, and black.
⌚️ Apple Watch Series 12 & Ultra 4. The new Apple Watches will be direct successors to last year’s Series 11 and Ultra 3, with a new chip inside and… that’s it. Apple will likely announce some new health features or other smaller features we aren’t privy to right now, but we don’t expect a redesign or anything. That’s likely reserved for next year.
🎧 AirPods 5. Apple is also expected to announce the new AirPods 5, giving the AirPods 4 an upgrade after a two-year hiatus. It’s unclear which upgrades Apple will make, but we assume sound quality and noise cancellation could see improvements. The earbuds will be sold in two models: one with ANC, and one without.
🤔 One more thing? Anything is possible at Apple events, especially ones as big as this. As Ternus takes the stage for the first time as CEO of the company, there’s no telling what he could unveil. Maybe we see the rumored HomePad smart home display? Perhaps a pair of smart glasses? Something even more radical? We’ll have to wait to find out.
