😬 Apple’s iPhone Duo silicone case is set to require adhesive to affix to the phone
💰 It’s a $79 case, which isn’t exactly cheap
🤷♂️ This isn’t a new situation, but is a shame for long-term durability
📅 The iPhone Duo is up for pre-order already, although you might be waiting a while if you order now
Apple’s new iPhone Duo is set to be released in a week, and it turns out one of the phone’s first-party cases might require a bit of extra work to assemble.
As 9To5Mac has noticed, Apple is releasing two cases for the Duo: a $79 silicone case and a $129 folio case, with the former requiring adhesive for it to affix to the phone.
The $79 silicone case will need its adhesive exposed for it to stick to your iPhone Duo, as Apple has opted to use adhesives rather than using magnets. This isn’t a new concept for foldable cases, but it is different to other cases available for the phone.
If you like to change your case to suit your mood, or fancy trying a third-party option once the novelty wears off, you may find the silicone case less accommodating than you’d like.
There’s also the question of durability. If you decide to remove the case, the adhesive might not be as effective afterwards, so you shouldn’t count on being able to take it off and put it back on again with the same results. In practice, you’ll want to think of it as a case you apply once and keep.
None of this is necessarily a big deal, and plenty of buyers will happily fit the case, forget about it and never look back.
It’s simply something to bear in mind, particularly if you’re the type who regularly changes cases, and especially when the alternative folio case costs $50 more that looks a fair bit more enticing.
The iPhone Duo is up for pre-order now, although given the flurry of orders on launch day last week, you may be waiting until 2027 to get your hands on Apple’s first foldable.
