đ§ Warner Bros. has confirmed a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works
đ€We donât know when it will launch or what the game will look like at the moment
đ The original game was the best-selling game of 2023, so a sequel comes with high hopes
đș Likewise, with the new Harry Potter TV series on HBO, it could ride the wave of renewed interest in the series
Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to the best-selling game of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy, is getting a long-awaited sequel.
As per the studioâs recent earnings report, it confirmed a âsecond installmentâ for Hogwarts Legacy is in the works, although stopped short of providing any more details as to what the game will look like or when it may be released.
That being said, it seems like Warner Bros. is expecting big things from Hogwarts Legacy 2, as it states games should âmeaningfully contributeâ to the studioâs future revenue.
In full, the report said that, âWe expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.â
This isnât necessarily a big surprise, though, as Warner Bros. said it expected a successor to Hogwarts Legacy and that it was a big priority following how successful the first game was. As IGN has noted, itâs among the best-selling games of all time, shifting over 40 million copies.
When it was released in 2023, it was the yearâs best-selling game, and was the first time a Call of Duty or a Rockstar Games title wasnât the top seller since 2009.
A sequel within the next couple of years would coincide well with both Warner Bros.â wider plans and with the next console generation. For reference, Harry Potter could get a new lease of life with the HBO TV adaptation coming at the end of this year, which is sure to renew interest in the game and should get people excited for the next one.
If the sequel is expected in late 2027 or 2028, then it also lines up with when we expect the PS6 release date to be, and Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be a neat launch title for the console.
It has been rumored that Sony is targeting 2027 for the PS6 release date, given that its launch plans reportedly havenât changed, even if officially Sony has said it doesnât know when the PS6 is going to launch, or how much the console is going to cost.
We donât know much about the PlayStation 6 officially, beyond that Sony has said the next console generation has been âtop of mindâ in recent months.
Rumors have indicated could be a versatile console with accompanying handheld with a large amount of memory and with the ability to play discs as well as digital games, although the recent bombshell that the brand is discontinuing physical game disc production for all new PlayStation titles starting January 2028 would strongly indicate that the PS6 is going to be a digital-only console. Weâll just have to wait and see.
