📅 Valve is hosting a Steam VR sale from September 14–21, 2026, fueling speculation about a hardware announcement
🤞 September 22 is a likely candidate for a release or price reveal, as Valve promised a launch before the end of summer
👀 The conclusion of the VR sale clears the Steam homepage, providing an ideal slot for a major product announcement
🔜 Signs of an imminent release include continued verification of VR titles for the headset and new retailer listings for accessories, with pricing expected to exceed four figures
We’re all speculating, predicting, and trying to determine when Valve will announce the Steam Frame release date. And while Valve continues to disappoint us by keeping quiet, there’s new hope on the horizon.
Developers have been emailed about a Steam VR sale, set to take place from September 14 to September 21, 2026. The email, as shared by Steam Hardware Updates, says: “You’re invited to an upcoming VR sale on Steam, beginning September 14th! We will be featuring discounted VR games, and wanted to extend an invitation to you to participate.”
With summer ending September 22 in the United States, and Valve promising the Steam Frame would release before the season ends, a release date and price announcement on September 22 looks extremely promising.
Of course, we’ve been let down before, but the sale ending means the Steam store homepage will be free for a major announcement, and the timing of a VR sale and then the reveal of a new headset seems like the perfect match.
The date of September 22 (or maybe earlier) also means Valve will keep its release window promise, as summer will officially be over after that date.
Valve continues to verify more titles for the Steam Frame, with Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes and Moss II VR the latest games to join the ‘Great on Frame’ category. We also know Valve has received plenty of Steam Frame shipments, and retailers have even started listing Steam Frame accessories. If that wasn’t enough, reports indicate Steam Frame review units have been sent out, and unboxing videos and setup videos have also leaked ahead of time.
Surely, the Steam Frame release date announcement is a matter of when, not if, at this point. We should also finally hear about the headset’s price, which is expected to exceed four figures because of the ongoing memory crisis.
