9:48 AM: I’m not sure that State of Play will have done much to win angry PlayStation fans over, honestly. We didn’t get any big new announcements, and there’s still no sign of Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. God of War Laufey was also absent. Most of the games shown we already knew about, too, but at least a lot of them got firm release dates. How did you rate today’s State of Play?
9:45 AM: And that’s your lot unless you’re a Final Fantasy fan, as we’re getting an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, including an all-important release date. It’s out April 8, 2027.
9:41 AM: Oh, new PlayStation hardware! Sony is flexing its marketing muscle with two GTA 6 limited edition controllers. Expect these to be popular. There’s a black or white option to choose from.
9:39 AM: Horror fans, rejoice. Until Dawn 2 is shaping up to be another enjoyable horror adventure, and we don’t have long to wait. It’s out January 28, 2027.
9:38 AM: Gran Turismo 7, arguably the best game on PS5, will be getting a Spec IV update later this year. It’s split into two parts and will release in October and December this year. Expect new tracks like the SUGO Circuit from Japan, and the classic Autumn Ring. A total of 12 cars will also be added, along with a family mode that makes the game more accessibility to younger players.
9:35 AM: Saros is getting more modes like a New Game+ and a multiplayer score mode. New accessibility features are also being added. It’s a free update, too.
9:34 AM: Some classics now for PS Plus. Megaman X Command Mission from PS2, Dino Crisis 2 from PSOne, and the first entry in the Ratchet & Clank series are all coming.
9:34 AM: A jazzy first look at a new third-person action game. Reminds me of Bayonetta, but of course it isn’t. It’s called Rhapsody in Scarlet, and you can get a closer look during the State of Play Japan after the show.
9:31 AM: Konami’s RPG that was shown off earlier this year returns for another look. Rev.NOIR is another one that’s due out in 2027.
9:27 AM: The last of the three indie games is Keeper from Double Fine Productions, which recently regained its independence from Microsoft. I’ve heard good things about this one, but not sure when I’ll ever get around to playing it. It’s out today.
9:26 AM: Uncanyon looks is a puzzle, top-down adventure game that looks rather charming. It’s out in 2027.
9:24 AM: A spotlight on three indie games, all of which are coming to PS5, of course. Hunter’s Moon is out October 26, 2026.
9:22 AM: A Gundam game now. I’ll be honest, I know nothing about Gundam other than visiting the super cool statue when I was in Japan. I know there’s been plenty of games, but this one looks pretty impressive on first glance. Gundam: Rogue Orbit releases on March 5, 2027.
9:21 AM: Final Fantasy Resonance is the first Final Fantasy in Square Enix’s HD-2D engine – and yeah, I’m a sucker for this art style. You also get to fight a massive Sephiroth, which is cool. It’s out October 22, 2026, and a demo is available today!
9:19 AM: Hey, this is nice. We’re finally getting a LEGO PlayStation. It’s a replica of the original PlayStation. Ape Escape and Gran Turismo dioramas are found inside, and the disc tray even opens. It even includes a controller. Nice.
9:17 AM: The chat really wants to see Destiny 3, but that wish hasn’t been fulfilled just yet as we’re getting a new trailer for Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, an expansion that launches on October 15, 2026.
9:16 AM: Time for something a little different. How about a game where you play as a shark? Man Eater 2 is out next year.
9:15 AM: 4A Games’ next entry in the Metro series is up next as we get a closer look at Metro 2039. It’s visually impressive, and there’s not long to wait. It’s out February 4, 2027.
9:12 AM: Capcom is probably the best publisher out there right now, but it’s fair to say they missed the mark with Monster Hunter: Wilds. Clearly, they’re not giving up on it, as we’re seeing the new expansion, Ascendance. It’s out sometime next year.
9:09 AM: As I predicted, it’s time for a look at Ghost of Yotei’s upcoming DLC called Most Wanted. You’ll need to level up your characters, take on challenging fights, use your abilities and… oh, you can play as Jin from the first game! It’s out October 1, 2026, and will be included in the upcoming Complete Edition.
9:05 AM: Okay, an actual game, and it’s Marvel’s Wolverine. We also know the State of Play will last around 45 minutes, which is plenty of time to get fans on side. Wolverine is out September 15, 2026, and is exclusive to PS5.
9:02 AM: The show has begun with a live-action segment with zombies jumping off a building to their doom. Turns out it wasn’t an advertisement for a game, but for the upcoming Resident Evil movie that comes out September 18. Weird way to start the show.
8:55 AM: If you’re watching on YouTube, you may have noticed a running theme in the chat. “No disc, no buy!” and several variations of that sentiment. Sony seems to be committed to doing away with discs for good, but the backlash hasn’t subsided. It probably doesn’t help that Xbox just revealed its disc-to-digital program, which lets you turn your physical copies into digital ones.
8:47 AM: Consider this your last warning before the show begins. In my experience, it’s a good time to hit the bathroom, grab a drink and snack, and get settled in before the event kicks off. Come to think of it, I better take my advice before I forget!
8:24 AM: We’re just over 30 minutes away from Sony’s State of Play broadcast! It’s a great opportunity for Sony to capitalize on the hype of GTA 6, which has led to the PS5 Pro selling out at most retailers. Remember: GTA 6 “plays best on PS5” according to Sony. Maybe we’ll get another look at Grand Theft Auto 6 today? Fingers crossed.
7:41 AM: What can we expect to see during today’s State of Play event? Well, the show will close with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but expect to see more of God of War Laufey, Marvel’s Wolverine, and maybe even Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Sony could give some games that it’s already released another push, too, including showing DLC for Ghost of Yotei and Saros.
6:52 AM: It’s been a rough time for PlayStation fans recently, with Sony announcing it will ditch discs in 2028 in favor of an all-digital future. However, today’s State of Play is a chance for the Japanese company to get PlayStation owners back on side, and we’ll be covering all the announcements right here.

How to watch today’s State of Play
The State of Play broadcast begins today at 6:00am PT / 9:00am ET / 2:00pm BST / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST. Sony hasn’t shared how long it will last, but a State of Play Japan will take place after the main presentation, which will include games from studios in Japan and Asia.
