Hot on the heels of Sony’s rather disappointing State of Play event, Nintendo announced a new Direct to mark The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary.
Two showcases will take place: first, a special Nintendo Direct for Zelda’s 40th anniversary on September 8, then a separate Nintendo Direct on September 9 that will last approximately 45 minutes.
For Nintendo fans, each Direct should deliver new games, surprise announcements, release dates, and provide even more reasons to purchase a Switch 2 for those who may be holding off.
A Nintendo Treehouse Live will also take place after the Nintendo Direct on September 9, showcasing some of the games announced in more detail.
How to watch the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct
The Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct begins at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm BST / 4pm CEST. It will contain a variety of The Legend of Zelda-related information about the series’ 40th anniversary. You can watch the Direct on Nintendo’s YouTube channel and in the video embed above.
How to watch the September Nintendo Direct
Taking place exactly 24 hours later, the September Nintendo Direct begins at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm BST / 4pm CEST. It’ll focus on Nintendo Switch 2 games coming this winter, which makes it the first Direct to not include any Switch 1 titles since its successor launched. You can watch the Direct and Nintendo Treehouse Live on Nintendo’s YouTube channel and in the video embed above and below.
What to expect from the Nintendo Direct broadcasts
The Zelda Direct will probably focus on The Legend of Zelda movie and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. We could also see the reveal of a limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 bundle, which has leaked online, along with other Zelda-themed tie-ins and celebrations.
As for the September Nintendo Direct, Nintendo will undoubtedly focus on its first-party titles due out this year, including Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and highlighting more ambitious third-party ports. We could also get some teases about games coming in early 2027, and even some new hardware.
