We’re live streaming from Hawaii at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, which has become one of the most important tech conferences every year. Why? Because the company’s new chips are powering next-gen smartphones and laptops you’ll buy in 2026 and 2027.

It’s a glimpse into the future – it also doesn’t hurt that the conference is in Maui. The Shortcut team flew from NYC with a lot of gear to pull off live demos. Along with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, we’re getting a first look at the Motorola Signature 27 before its 2027 debut.

Today, our Substack focuses on what’s new: 8K60fps video (finally!), agentic AI that actually matters to consumers, console-quality gaming performance on a phone, and a 2nm chipset that’s more powerful and equally more efficient.

Here are the five key improvements these chips will deliver to the next generation of smartphones, plus a preview of the Motorola Signature 27.

📸 A big jump for photos and videos. Cameras on the back of your phone may be reliant on good sensors to perform well, but they also need a powerful chip to process them so you can get the best results. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will deliver just that. New features like Intelligent Pixel Control and Elite Color Engine look at every picture and video you take and enhance them with reduced noise and cinema-quality color correction, down to the last pixel. The Extreme chip also enables 8K video capture at 60 frames per second, a first for any mobile phone chip.

🚀 Performance is faster than ever. These chips are faster than ever before. Both of them are built on 2nm processes, which crams all the computing power into one of the smallest packages Qualcomm can produce. With even more powerful CPUs and GPUs, the new 8 Elite Gen 6 gets big boosts in everyday performance while maintaining battery efficiency so your phone lasts all day (and then some).

🕹️ Your favorite games will feel smoother. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 delivers the fastest gaming performance we’ve ever seen. It’s all thanks to a more robust GPU, which is 35% more powerful than the last generation. There’s also a new Adreno Neural Fusion that uses AI to deliver intelligent graphics for more immersive gameplay, improved visuals, and battery efficiency. With higher-performance memory to boot, new phones with this chip will be the ones to get for every mobile gamer out there.

🤖 Agentic AI, right in your pocket. The agentic age of AI is among us, with apps like Muse skyrocketing in popularity to help people get things done on their behalf. To prepare for the rise of personal agents in your pocket, Qualcomm optimized these chips in new ways to ensure performance and efficiency are kept in tact, while becoming even more capable of understanding your personal information and context. It’s one of the biggest shifts in how people are interacting with AI, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is ready for it all.

🛜 More reliable wireless connectivity. Your cellular data is going to be more reliable with the new Snapdragon chips, all thanks to the Qualcomm X105 5G modem. Paired with special AI enhancements, phones with these chips will have an easier time connecting and staying connected. Plus, it’s giving Qualcomm a chance to try out key components that it’ll need when 6G eventually rolls around.

🥇 The first phone with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is…

The big question around every new Snapdragon chip is when it’s going to hit the market. Qualcomm says the new chips will launch in flagship phones starting later this year, but at Snapdragon Summmit, we got a look at the phone that’ll be first to include the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6: the Motorola Signature 27.

💪 The most powerful Moto phone ever. The phone is Moto’s most powerful to date, relying on the 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 for a new camera system, Gemini Intelligence, powerful gaming features, and more.

📸 Beefy camera system. The bigget draw to this phone is that new camera system, which includes four dedicated sensors on the back to give you the most versatility on any Moto phone ever shipped. There’s a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main sensor for sharp photos during the day and at night, plus a 200MP periscope telephoto camera for incredible zoom. Motorola also includes a Video Enhancement Engine for improved video quality, enhanced OIS, and more.

🔊 Bang & Olufsen speakers. Motorola is partnering with Bang & Olufsen on a multi-year deal to include better speakers and audio performance across its devices, and the Signature 27 is the first to take advantage of it.

📐 A sleek, sophisticated design. The Signature 27 leans into Moto’s design chops with a sophisticated look that blends textures and dual-tone colors to create something that really stands out. It comes in two colors that, at least to our eye, look really good: Pantone Coal Smoke in Tactical Weave and Capulet Green with a brushed textile-inspired finish.

🧊 Insane cooling system. On top of powerful performance, the Signature 27 also comes with Motorola’s upgraded ArcticMesh cooling system, which combines a new diamond-infused thermal gel, liquid metal, copper mesh, and a redesigned 3D vapor chamber to help manage heat no matter what you do. It’s 40% bigger than the previous generation, so there’s a good shot this thing will rarely overheat.

📆 Coming later this year. Motorola says the Signature 27 will arrive later this year. We expect to get more details like pricing and availability in the coming months, so stay tuned.
