GTA 6 is launching as a single-player only experience on November 19, 2026, with any plans for its online component strictly underwraps for now. However, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, it could arrive as early as next year.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy may have accidentally spilled the beans on Rockstar’s launch plans for GTA 6 online.
“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” he said. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
GTA 5 Online came two weeks after the game launched and transformed into its own money-making platform, with the mode becoming extremely popular and even spawned a role-playing community of sorts.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Online was less successful, and arrived seven months after the game launched, which indicates that we should see GTA 6 Online launch within 12 months after release at the latest.
Rockstar isn’t dropping its cash cow of GTA 5 Online anytime soon. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said it will continue to be supported.
Speaking to IGN, Zelnick said: “We support our properties when the consumers are involved with those titles. As an example, we launched NBA 2K Online in China, I think originally in 2012 if I’m not mistaken. And then we launched NBA 2K Online 2 in China 2017, If I’m not mistaken. We did not sunset Online 1. They both are still in the market and they serve consumers and they’re alive and we have this massive audience.
“So we’ve shown a willingness to support legacy titles when a community wants to be engaged with them.”
Rockstar just announced GTA 6: The Album, a selection of 34 original tracks available on vinyl and CD.
