The NEOGEO AES+, the hotly anticipated remake of the original NEOGEO AES, has suffered a lengthy delay until September 2027. The console was supposed to be released on November 12, 2026, but has been pushed back at the last hour.
The ten classic NEOGEO AES+ games, which include Metal Slug and The King of Fighters 2002, will also be released next year because of the delay. That includes the NEOGEO AES+ accessories, too.
In a statement from PLAION, the company explained why the NEOGEO AES+ has been delayed and offered its apologies:
“We know many of you have been looking forward to receiving your NEOGEO AES+ this year. We’re sorry to say that the worldwide release will now take place on 16th September 2027.
“The response to NEOGEO AES+ has been extraordinary, but global component supply constraints mean we simply cannot manufacture enough systems to deliver the worldwide launch our community deserves.”
“Rather than launch with severely limited availability, we’re taking the extra time to expand production, secure the components we need, and invest in an even bigger future for NEOGEO AES+.”
Thankfully, PLAION said anyone who has pre-ordered will keep their priority place and that their order remains secure. There will also be no price increase, and no further action is required.
A “Founding Supporter Bonus” will also be included with every console shipped from its launch production run, as a way of thanking players for their patience and support.
PLAION ended its statement by saying, “We know this is a significant delay, and we’re genuinely sorry. Thank you for sticking with us.”
