The Asus ROG Ally X20 prices have been revealed: the standalone handheld is $1,299, and the larger bundle is $2,499. Both versions are available for preorder now, and they’ll arrive on shelves October 15.
This OLED-screen upgraded handheld comes at a $300 premium to the original $999 Asus ROG Xbox Ally X. We expected the price would fall around $1,299 after Asus announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 would be sold separately after all.
However, we didn’t expect Asus to beef up the bundle, which originally included only the company’s X-Real-partnered augmented reality gaming glasses. In addition to the limited-edition ROG Xreal R1 glasses, this bundle now includes a new dbrand Killswitch case and a custom Pelican case. These new add-ons help justify the bundle’s enormous $2,499 price – if only just.
Even on its own, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20 seems worthy of its elevated price. The main selling point is the slightly larger 7.4-inch OLED screen, which finally lets you play games in HDR on an Ally handheld with up to 1,400 nits of brightness. The screen is also tougher and less reflective thanks to both Gorilla Glass Victus and a Corning DXC Anti-Reflection coating.
All of the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20’s inputs have also been improved with Gulikit TMR thumbsticks, a transforming D-Pad, rounder buttons, more tactile bumpers, longer impulse trigger pulls, and a remapped Action button that allows you to capture quick screenshots and record gameplay clips.
