We could finally see Valve’s long-awaited Steam Frame headset arrive in just a matter of weeks – here’s why.
Many believed that we might see an announcement of Valve’s VR headset after the Steam Summer Sale ended, but such events have now passed with no reveal in sight.
However, this could be because Valve has been gearing up for a bigger occasion to mark the launch of the Steam Frame.
As Steam Hardware Updates on X has noted, the 30th anniversary of Valve takes place on August 24 this year, and Valve could mark the occasion by giving us some more information on the long-awaited Steam Frame, such as its price and release date.
It might be a bit of a long shot, but the fact is we’re overdue an announcement. It would also make sense to coincide the Steam Frame’s release date reveal with such a special occasion, as it’s the last piece of hardware fans are waiting for now that the Steam Controller and Steam Machine are available.
Folks in the comments section of the X post are also suggesting it could be high time for Valve to announce Half Life 3, which has been rumored for over two decades at this point.
Of course, take all of this with a pinch of salt, but one can hope. After all, Valve hasn’t stopped its seemingly endless stream of updates for the device, not to mention the litany of shipments it’s received into its US warehouse in recent weeks, so something must be going on.
The most recent shipment information we’ve got took the total number of Steam Frame shipments that Valve has received to 22, which also includes controllers and associated accessories, as well as the headsets themselves.
It seems Valve keeps stocking up on units in preparation for the hotly anticipated Steam Frame pre-order, which could come at any moment now.
Valve has also verified even more games for the headset, as Steam Hardware Updates has noted, including Vail, two Arizona Sunshine titles, and they’ve added back Pistol Whip as a verified option.
This means the headset also has well over 50 verified games for the new ‘Great on Frame’ category Valve recently launched, including a wide range of options with a mix of traditional VR titles and flatscreen 2D options.
If one insider is to be believed, the Steam Frame could be very expensive when it does eventually release. It could start at $1,100, which isn’t good news for folks who hoped the Steam Frame would be more affordable.
