Star Wars fans are in for a treat, as the next free game hitting the Epic Games Store will take you to a galaxy far, far away.
Space combat fighter Star Wars: Squadrons will be free to claim on the Epic Games Store between November 24 and November 30. To pick it up, simply create an account, head to the storefront’s homepage, nab the game and it’s yours to keep forever.
Released a little over two years ago, Star Wars: Squadrons is a spiritual successor to the Star Wars: X-Wing video game series of old. You’ll hop in the cockpits of various Imperial and Rebel starfighters across a single-player campaign or 5v5 multiplayer.
Ships can be modified with unlocked weapons, engines and shields, but Squadrons isn’t a live service game and there are no microtransactions. It’s closer to an arcade-y shooter than a bona fide flight sim, but does leave room for a lot of strategic team fighting and tactical maneuvering as you distribute power across the various systems of your ship.
It’s doubly impressive in VR. Careering through space in a headset makes for a pretty dazzling experience. Squadrons did receive a next-gen upgrade to bring the game to PS5 and Xbox Series X – which lets you run the game at 120fps – but EA hasn’t yet announced an accompanying VR update. That unfortunately means it probably won’t take a place among all the other PSVR 2 games that have been announced.
While you wait for November 24 to roll around, you can pick up Evil Dead: The Game on the Epic Games Store for free. The asymmetric multiplayer horror game was released earlier this year and was praised for translating the gory horror of the original film series into a video game. And for free, you really can’t go wrong.
If you want even more free stuff, remember Amazon Prime members can pick up Fallout: New Vegas and a bunch of other games before the end of the month, and 20 games are hitting PS Plus Premium this November.
