Nintendo warns Switch 2 price hike is coming soon

Nintendo has begun warning consumers of the impending Switch 2 price hike that takes effect in a matter of weeks.
As per Nintendo Life, the in-store kiosks for the Switch 2 are now advertising the new price of the Switch 2 at $499.99, which takes effect on September 1.
Fans have seen the reminders out in the wild, with the new messaging seen in Walmart and posted to the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit:
“The suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 system will increase to $499.99 on September 1. *Actual price may vary.”
We’re now under a month until Switch 2 prices rise worldwide, increasing from $449.99 to $499.99 in the US and $680 in Canada, so you’re best buying the console now for its current price tag if you’ve been thinking about getting one.
Nintendo has explained why the console’s price is rising and has stated it’s because of a range of factors. In a Q&A session with investors, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa noted that the rise was “made in light of various changes in the recent market conditions which we believe will have a medium-to-long-term impact on the global outlook of our dedicated video game platform business.”
The factors cited include volatility in global markets for things such as oil markets and global exchange rates, as well as the surge in global memory prices.
We’ve seen the knock-on effect of this with other consumer electronics, with hefty PS5 price increases from Sony that saw the PS5 Pro rise to $900, and the PS5 Standard and Digital models rise to $650 and $600, respectively.
Likewise, Microsoft has announced sweeping Xbox price rises that make the Series X $150 more expensive at $800, while the Series S is now $500 – the same price the Series X launched at back in 2020.
Even Valve’s long-awaited Steam Machine isn’t the price people had hoped, with the Steam Machine’s price starting at $1,049 for a 512GB base model, and quickly rising to $1,428 if you want the 2TB variant with a Steam Controller bundled in.
