Nintendo has added three new Game Boy games to its Switch Online catalog for members, and it’s even got a hidden gem from Shigeru Miyamoto for you to get stuck into.
From October 27, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners can enjoy Avenging Spirit, Mole Mania and Pinball: Revenge of the ‘Gator.
Mole Mania is a 1997 puzzle game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto – the man behind everything from Mario to Zelda – where you play as Muddy, a mole that has to rescue his wife Maggie and their seven children from an evil farmer called Jinbe.
The game has seven mazes, each with its own series of grid-based stages, with an overground and underground layer. Muddy swaps between these by digging.
If you’re into side-scrolling platformers, then you’ll want to take a look at Avenging Spirit, which was first released by Jaleco in 1992.
In the game, you play as the ghost of the game’s hero and have to rescue your girlfriend Gennifer from a crime syndicate. As you’re already dead, you can possess enemies, use their abilities and cause general torment.
Revenge of the ‘Gator is a pinball game from HAL Laboratory, which served as the inspiration for their later title, Kirby’s Pinball Land.
These three new titles take the total number of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on Switch Online to 49, with a further four that are exclusives to Japan.
Unlike GBA or N64 titles, NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are accessible with the standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is $3.99 a month, $7.99 for three months or $19.99 for a year.
For N64, GBA and Sega Genesis games and GameCube on Switch 2, this requires Switch Online’s Expansion Pack add-on, which is $49.99 a year.
