👍 Nintendo has announced no new price rises for Switch 2
💰 The company also said in a recent earnings call it is in a position to still maintain sufficient quantities of memory
📉 With the ongoing situation, Switch 2 sales are down 37.4 percent year-on-year
📈 Back in September, Nintendo implemented worldwide Switch 2 price rises that took it to $500 in the US and $680 in Canada
Nintendo has said it isn’t implementing another Switch 2 price hike for the moment as part of the company’s latest earnings call.
As per Reuters, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said that Nintendo isn’t “considering additional changes” to the Switch 2’s price.
Back in September, Nintendo raised Switch 2 prices worldwide, which took the console up to $500 in the USA and $680 in Canada.
Nintendo said in its earnings call that Switch 2 sales have dropped 37.4 percent year-on-year.
Furukawa also noted that “there has been no major change to the memory situation and Nintendo is in a position to secure sufficient quantities”, noting that Nintendo is still in a reasonable position when it comes to obtaining RAM.
Nintendo decided to raise the price of the Switch 2 because of a range of factors, including the ongoing memory crisis, as well as volatility in global markets for things such as oil markets and global exchange rates.
Earlier this week, one of Nintendo’s Switch 2 cartridge suppliers announced that it plans to stop making ROM memory to focus on data centers instead. This is arguably what’s driving the ongoing shortages for consumer-grade hardware and driving an array of price rises.
The RAM crisis is also to blame for the hefty PS5 price increases from Sony that saw the PS5 Pro rise to $900, and the PS5 Standard and Digital models rise to $650 and $600, respectively.
Likewise, Microsoft announced sweeping Xbox price rises that made the Series X $150 more expensive, making it $800, while the Series S is now $500 – the same price the Series X launched at back in 2020.
Even Valve’s long-awaited Steam Machine didn’t launch at the price people had hoped, with the Steam Machine’s price starting at $1,049 for a 512GB base model, and quickly rising up to $1,428 if you want the 2TB variant with a Steam Controller bundled in.
