GTA 6 price won't drop anytime soon, with players flocking to the $100 Ultimate Edition

GTA 6 has bucked the usual trend with its $79.99 price tag â $10 more than weâre used to. And it turns out a discount isnât on the horizon if youâre planning to wait for a price drop.
Not only are players pre-ordering the $100 Ultimate Edition over the standard version of the game, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC that he expects the price of GTA 6 to remain at $79.99 for the foreseeable future.
âWe preserved our pricing on Grand Theft Auto 5 for a very long time,â Zelnick told CNBC. âMuch longer than a standard release and entertainment property.â
Zelnick admitted that storefronts can offer discounts if they wish, but it will impact their margin on the sale, not Take-Twoâs.
âWe establish our pricing, and then storefronts can do what they wish,â he says. âWe donât have any ability to control that. So if they reduce the price, theyâre obviously reducing their margin on the sale.â
Of course, GTA 6 â like every other video game â will eventually go on sale in the years to come, once the initial consumer demand dies down. But if you were hoping to pick up the game for less after November 19 rolls around, be prepared to wait a few years.
Zelnick has revealed that GTA 6 pre-orders are âunprecedented and astonishingâ, but heâs not getting ahead of himself, as itâs unclear whether these pre-orders will translate to actual sales once the game is released.
Weâre still waiting to see whether Rockstar Games will release a GTA 6 Collectorâs Edition, as it seems like the company is leaving money on the table otherwise. Many players would pay extra for an edition that includes physical goodies â even though physical copies of GTA 6 are just a download code in the box.
