🆚 PlayStation accounts for 74% of pre-orders, compared to 26% on Xbox Series X|S
💰 The game releases on November 19, 2026, starting at $79.99, with a PC release set for 2027
📅 Digital pre-loads start November 10, requiring 212GB of storage space
GTA 6 has already nearly sold eight million copies ahead of its release date of November 19, according to a new report.
Market intelligence firm Sensor Tower believes Rockstar Games’ open-world epic has reportedly sold 7.71 million copies, bringing in an estimated $751 million in revenue for the developer and its publisher Take-Two.
Unsurprisingly, the split between consoles is greatly in favor of Sony’s PlayStation, which apparently accounts for 74% of GTA 6 sales, with Xbox making up 26%. Not only does PlayStation have a far bigger install base, but Sony also tied up the marketing rights to the game, declaring that GTA 6 “plays best on PS5”.
Close to eight million units sold might sound like a small number for arguably the most-anticipated game of all time, but to put it into perspective, that already makes it one of the best-selling games this year – and it’s not even out yet.
You can expect GTA 6 sales to explode once the title is available, especially if there’s positive word of mouth and reviews are positive. The game is also scheduled to come to PC in 2027 along with GTA 6 Online: Grand Theft Auto’s incredibly popular online component.
There’s still a few weeks until launch with Grand Theft Auto VI releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. The standard version of the game costs $79.99 – $10 more than we’re used to – and an Ultimate Edition is also available for $99. Those with deeper pockets could also purchase the GTA 6 Collector’s Edition, which cost $499.99 and didn’t come with a copy of the game.
Those who have pre-ordered the game digitally can pre-load on November 10. It’s a good idea to do so, as the game weighs in at 212GB, taking up a quarter of the PS5’s 1TB SSD.
