📦 The Apple HomeView has reportedly been sitting in warehouses for nearly a year waiting for software readiness
🤖 Delays to the AI-powered Siri held back the device’s release
🧓 Hardware specs like an A18 chip and 8GB RAM reflect older hardware targets
📅 It launches in November for $299.99 with countertop and wall-mounted options
The Apple HomeView may be the newest device from the Cupertino-based company to hit the shelves, but it’s already older than you think.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the HomeView has been “sitting boxed up in warehouses for the better part of a year, waiting for the software to catch up”.
The AI-powered Siri is solely to blame, which faced several delays before being released, leading Apple to hold back the HomeView until it was ready.
The HomeView relies on Siri for voice commands, device orchestration, and contextual automation. The entire software experience is built around AI-powered Siri, and not a separate OS like iPadOS or tvOS.
With an A18 iPhone processor and only 8GB of RAM, it’s clear the HomeView’s specs were also locked in a few years prior, and it isn’t sporting the most cutting-edge technology we’re used to seeing from Apple.
The Apple HomeView releases in November for $299.99. A wall-mounted version is available, though we don’t recommend buying it over the countertop version.
To really get the most out of HomeView, Apple has partnered with LG and Schneider Electric to create a doorbell camera, security cameras, thermostats, and smart locks, which directly integrate with the Apple Home app.
