After several false dawns and misplaced predictions, it looks like the Steam Frame launch will take place today, September 14.
After a flurry of new information was revealed by data miners, the Steam Frame release date, price, and pre-order should be revealed at 1pm ET / 10am PT / 6pm BST / 7pm CEST, with sign-ups for the reservation queue lasting until September 17, 2026. After that date, users will be entered into a randomized queue, similar to the Steam Controller and Steam Machine.
Emails will be sent out on September 18 to let you know whether you made it into the reservation queue or if you’re on the waitlist. September 21 is predicted to be the date order emails will start being sent out.
It’s likely that the first wave of Steam Frame reviews will also appear today, as Linus Tech Tips’ second channel, Short Circuit, published a 30-minute Steam Frame review accidentally before it was pulled.
The Steam Frame is expected to cost at least $1,000 for the 256GB model. Hopefully, there will be more supply than the extremely scarce Steam Machine and Steam Controller, as Valve has received several Steam Frame shipments during this year.
However, you’ll want to sign-up to reserve your unit, otherwise you’ll be at the mercy of a randomized queue which likely won’t deliver a Steam Frame until next year at the earliest.
The Steam Frame is Valve’s second attempt at a VR headset after the Index. It’s designed with streaming from a PC in mind, but also allows you to play games standalone on the headset.
