😔 Sony will skip CES 2027, marking its first absence from the tech expo since 1967
🆕 The company previously used CES to reveal key products, including the PSVR 2 and the PlayStation logo
🤔 Sony stated it is shifting focus toward entertainment, IP, creators, and digital events like State of Play broadcasts
💿 This follows Sony’s decision to stop manufacturing disc production for PlayStation consoles starting in 2028
After announcing the end of disc production for PlayStation consoles from 2028, Sony has now revealed it won’t be attending CES 2027 – its first absence since the event was established in 1967.
Sony’s presence at CES 2026 was almost non-existent aside from its joint venture with Honda and its now defunct Afeela electric vehicle, so the writing may have been on the wall. However, the move is still a surprise, as the Japanese electronics company has been a mainstay ever since the Consumer Electronics Show began.
Sony has also saved some major announcements for CES in the past, such as revealing the PlayStation 5 logo and the PSVR 2, its virtual reality headset.
Sony explained its decision to skip CES 2027 to Bloomberg and said it was focusing on “entertainment, intellectual property, and technology geared towards creators.” A spokesperson said: “We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business.”
Sony also skipped Gamescom 2026 and has not attended the event since 2019, though it was present at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, where it had a large booth for the third year in a row. Sony has moved to host more digital events in recent years, including its State of Play broadcasts for new game and hardware announcements.
