🤷♂️ The licensed video games just don’t stop coming
Neo-noir assassin John Wick might soon come back to the world of video games, as franchise owner Lionsgate has expressed interest in a triple-A adaptation.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer touched on the possibility of a new tie-in game during the company’s recent earnings talk. As IndieWire reports, he suggested Lionsgate has already considered the possibility and is behind the idea.
“I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big triple-A game to be made out of John Wick,” Feltheimer said. “We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that at this time.”
It wouldn’t be the first time John Wick appeared in a video game. In 2020, Bithell Games released John Wick Hex, a turn-based tactics game that translates the frenetic firefights of the movies into thoughtful, deliberate showdowns. Split-second decisions are slowed down to let you carefully maneuver and plan your actions, before they unfold in a glorious chain of violence when the action starts up again.
But it wasn’t the triple-A experience Feltheimer describes. Given the gaming market’s continued obsession with first-person shooters, it’s more likely that Lionsgate has a shooter in mind – a John Wick game closer to Call of Duty than chess. Nothing’s confirmed yet, though, and it could be a while before a project is locked down.
In the meantime, if you have a hankering to see John Wick on the small screen, you might want to play Sifu. A melee fighting game with a novel aging mechanic, it’ll make you feel like a martial arts master that could take on the likes of Baba Yaga himself. We even reckon it’s one of the best PS5 games around. Or, if you’re just desperate to see Keanu Reeves in a video game, remember he starred as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.
There’s no shortage of licensed video games at the moment. This year saw the release of Evil Dead: The Game, Dune: Spice Wars, and Gotham Knights. With Hogwarts Legacy, Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, and more coming next year, expect more tie-ins to flood the market.
