➡️ The Shortcut Skinny: Warzone 2.0 loot

  • 😔 Warzone 2.0 has dropped, but players aren’t happy with its loot system

  • 🐌 It’s been redesigned to slow down the pace of the game

  • 👌 But we’ve got a handy trick that will keep your post-firefight sweeps speedy

  • ⚙️ All it takes is a quick tweak in the options menu

Warzone 2.0 is finally here, but not everyone is pleased with the new Call of Duty Battle Royale’s updated loot system.

Between unloading magazines and desperately asking enemy squads in proximity chat not to shoot you, you’ll be spending a good deal of your time picking up loot from downed enemies. Actually, you’ll probably end up spending a lot more time than you ever originally wanted.

In between grappling with Warzone 2.0’s overhauled battle pass, players have been quick to voice their complaints about the game’s new loot system. As they’ve vented on Reddit, players have found the whole system has been redesigned to decelerate the game’s pace.

You can no longer simply sprint over a pile of loot without any thought, but have to spend a bit more time considering what’s going in your backpack before you pick it up.

There’s a fair bit of clunkiness to contend with, too. Items lie flat on the ground (rather than hovering like they do in, say, Fortnite), which makes them hard to locate, and the minimal space in your backpack will mean you have to frequently dip back into your inventory to rearrange it. Many have found it finicky to pick items off the ground, as the game makes you delicately angle the camera or move the cursor over piles of closely crowded weapons.

There’s one nifty way you can inject some speed back into your firefights, though. Like in the original Warzone, a quick trip to the options menu will let you pick up loot – and interact with anything else in the game, such as doors or vehicles – at the tap of a single button, rather than having to hold the button down. It’s a minor change but saves some all-important seconds.

To make the tweak, pull up the main menu and open ‘Settings’. From there, select the ‘Controller’ tab and head down to the ‘Gameplay’ section. Toggle the ‘Equipment Behavior’ tab to ‘Prioritize Interact’ and you’re done.

You’ll now be able to pick up loot by tapping the interact button but will have to reload by holding the button. It’s a fair trade-off, honestly – you’ll waste more time holding down the button to pick up a pile of loot than reloading every now and then.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the series’ biggest-ever launch, and we expect the release of Warzone 2.0 will only drive more players to the franchise. It didn’t make it onto our pick of the best PS5 games or the best Xbox Series X games, but at least series fans can look forward to the return of a fan-favorite map.
