The screen is a step down, only so Nintendo can sell you another console in 3 years. When it’s obvious, it’s not over blown. The fans will defend it, but it’s just a moderate upgrade. It’s underpowered, but all Nintendo consoles are. Being critical doesn’t mean you dislike the product or service, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

FIGHT!!!

Thanks for the comment, Drew!

The Switch 2's screen might not be OLED, but it's still excellent with 120Hz, HDR and VRR support. It's also a massive improvement over the original's display!

As for the Switch 2 being underpowered, I disagree. Of course, everyone always wants more power, but there has to be a cutoff point. Just think how much more it would cost if Nintendo made it even more powerful. The console would also need to be much bigger to fit a bigger battery and for cooling.

I think the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is the perfect example of what Nintendo wanted to avoid. $1,000 for a handheld that's slightly more powerful is outrageous!

I think Nintendo should’ve called this the Switch Pro and half of the argument is thrown out. Everything could be exactly the same, and most people would be fine with it. The “mouthful” Xbox handheld is a dangerous trend, and we’ve only just begun. I’ll bet that a $600+ Switch 2 OLED will be out in 2027/28. Im ready to switch to PC gaming entirely. Cheers!!!

Do you own a Switch 2? I know it seems very familiar on the surface but it’s a generational leap over the Switch so putting the “Pro” moniker on it doesn’t do it justice. We’re not just talking about a system that plays Switch games slightly better. It’s been improved upon and refined in every possible way.

PC gaming is definitely the way forward for many. I’m interested to see what Valve does with the next Steam Deck and whether Sony releases a proper handheld too.

I bought a SW2 used via FB marketplace. It’s fine. I’m just not impressed with it. I do emulate a lot, and I still have my GameCube and Wii for those awesome games, but I’m just not enamored with it. To me, the best upgrade is when the game is docked. I don’t feel like it’s a proper jump as a handheld device.

I’m very interested in a “new” SteamDeck, Valve’s rumored console, and Sony’s handheld. I’m just not paying $1K for any of them. I’m thrifty.

Fair enough. For me it’s the opposite: I’ve found myself more impressed by handheld mode this time around.

Oh yeah, $1k for anything other than a top end GPU is ridiculous. Blows my mind that the Xbox Series X is $649. Genuinely the worst generation of consoles for me.

*everyone. These companies lie about “market conditions” as an excuse to raise costs than promote record profits. The games are re-releases, broken/ not optimized, filled with micro transactions, require online and smaller studios are running circles around the AAA studios. Easily the worst gen. By a country mile.
