The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 special edition remains one of the most in-demand products ahead of the game’s release on November 5, 2026 – but how can you boost your chances of getting one when stock reappears?

We know that The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 special edition will be restocked, with Best Buy offering limited quantities of the console at select retailers during its midnight launch event. Nintendo has also shared that stock will be “replenished”, though no date was shared.
However, with the console sure to sell out quickly, you’ll want to take all the necessary steps to ensure you have the best chance of securing one when stock appears. To quote a famous fairy, then: “Hey, listen!” and follow our Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 special edition restock guide below.
Keep your eye on these US retailers for Zelda Switch 2 restocks
The two retailers that we know will have more Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 consoles are Best Buy and the Nintendo Store. We can also expect Walmart, Target and Amazon to potentially get more units in, but Best Buy and the Nintendo Store are the most likely candidates for now.
Best Buy will have limited stock of the Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 at select stores during its midnight launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on November 5. You can check Best Buy’s website to see which stores are eligible. Whether we’ll see Best Buy also offer units online is up for debate, but we’ll be watching closely for any more announcements.
The Nintendo Store is your next best destination. Nintendo is likely to have more stock available as selling directly to consumers is not only beneficial to the Japanese company, but a message on the UK Nintendo Store said that stock would be replenished at a later date.
Set up instant checkout for each retailer
When more Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 stock appears, you’ll want to be ready to checkout as soon as possible. Don’t waste time entering your address, billing details and other information – other eager consumers will have secured the few consoles that were available by that point. Do this instead:
Add your address, payment details, and phone number to the account
Stay signed in on your desktop or mobile (logging back in will only slow you down)
Enable 1-click checkout at Amazon
Use Apple Pay or Google Pay for even faster checkout
It’s a simple but easy step to overlook, and will save you from scrambling around for your card and heartache if, by the time you press buy, you’re hit with an out of stock message.
Here’s when retailers usually restock
To make life difficult, retailers don’t follow the same timings or days when it comes to restocks. It’s why it’s good to know the difference between when Target is likely to restock compared to Walmart, as then you’re better prepared.
Best Buy restocks between 9am-1pm local time, while Walmart often drops new stock on Thursday and Friday mornings. Walmart is also more likely to announce a restock ahead of time, but has a habit of giving Walmart Plus members first access if it does so.
Target has always released new stock earlier than most, around 6am to 10am local time, while Amazon can either restock around lunchtime (11am to 2pm ET) or in the evening (7pm - 11pm ET).
Why is The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 so popular?
Despite a price increase and the Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 costing more ($529.99 instead of $499.99), Nintendo’s special edition console is popular for two reasons: The Legend of Zelda remains one of the Japanese company’s tentpole franchises, and has only seen its popularity increase since the release of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
More importantly, though, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made. It has a place in many people’s hearts, so being able to play a remake of the game on a Zelda-inspired Switch 2 will appeal to thousands of players – young and old.
