I’ve been reporting on consumer technology for decades, so it’s easy for me to spot when a fresh-faced brand has the power to upend stodgy established players.
Laifen is the best example of a novel brand that’s challenging the likes of Oral-B with its electric toothbrush and Dyson with the ionic hair dryer we tested at CES 2026. Now, the tech brand is expanding its grooming lineup to include a new automatic curler and pocket-sized shaver.
Yes, there are products for two very different audiences, but there’s a common thread besides the fact that they live in your bathroom: Laifen has become really good at building small, fast, precisely controlled motors. Its new $99.99 AutoCurl curling iron lets people curl their own hair without fuss, while its P3 compact electric shaver is roughly the size of a deck of cards.
Both of these tech products make the same bet: if the motor is engineered smartly enough, it can upend established brands that overcharge for the same results.
AutoCurl Curling Iron takes the skill out of curling
Laifen’s AutoCurl Curling Iron has a unique goal: set it and forget it. That’s something that traditional curling irons you buy off of Amazon can’t give you – they require technique. If you’re curling your hair before you’ve had your morning coffee, your hair can turn into a lopsided disaster.
Laifen’s answer is to remove the decision-making entirely.
🧠You place, it decides. Slide a strand into the enclosed chamber, and D-ToF sensors detect it in about half a second. Auto Mode starts on its own – there’s no button press to time. Manual Mode is there if you insist on triggering it yourself, but by default, it’s hands-off.
🪮It picks the curl direction for you. The chamber is split into two sides, and the iron reads which side you fed hair into to decide which way to rotate. Hair closer to your face curls inward, hair away from your face curls outward. Simple. Left/right switching – the most common way people mess up a curl – stops being a thing you think about in the morning or when you’re in a rush to get out the door in the evening.
💇♀️Resistance is futile. Micro-servo monitors torque in real time and slows or pauses if it detects the hair snagging, according to Laifen. That’s an important safety measure for a tech product that is functioning automatically and operating next to your head.
⏲️ 16 seconds per section. The iron heats up in 50 seconds and recovers between sections in just shy of 12 seconds, which makes the full-head claim plausible. Three temperature levels are available to select from – 320°F for fine hair, 356°F for normal, 392°F for coarse – with a colored light ring indicating which one you’re on.
♨️ 360º safety. Laifen designed a 360° enclosed chamber so that your fingers never touch the hot surface. There’s also a 60-second inactivity sleep mode and a 30-minute auto shut-off. Calling a neighbor to see if you unplugged the curling iron is less of an issue in 2026.

The P3 Electric Shaver is a full-size shave in a one-third-size body
I actually hate my current big, bulky electric shaver and need to switch to this Laifen P3 shaver that’s one-third the size.
It’s not just the shrinking part that’s making me do a headturn (where you can fully scope my uneven stubble). It’s the two powerful motors, three blades, and the fact that I won’t accidentally hit the power button to waste the battery when I pack it into a suitcase. And even if it ran out of battery on a trip, it charges via normal USB-C, not a proprietary charger.
⚙️Two motors. Laifen puts a pair of its in-house L2 linear motors in the P3, each rated at 12,000 cuts per minute, running cross-directionally. A PID control loop adjusts output as beard density changes, which is the specific mechanism meant to stop the pulling you get when a cheap motor bogs down in thick stubble. A dual-stage shock absorber handles the vibration that comes with running two motors in something this small.
🪒 Three blades. Two foil heads handle stubble under 2mm; a center trimmer with a laser-etched surface catches longer and flat-lying hairs. The head floats to follow your jaw and neck. Laifen’s ArcBlade geometry gives the foil a 146.2° curve, which the company says increases coverage by 54% over a flat foil.
🎛️ Always the foil. At 0.055mm, the precision-perforated stainless steel foil is thin enough to get the blade close without the mesh itself becoming the thing between you and a clean shave. Laifen positions the stainless option as the more wear-resistant, sharper of its two foil types.
🧳 Built to be carried. IPX7 means wet, dry, or in the shower, and the head detaches magnetically for a rinse. USB-C gets you 100 minutes of runtime, and a 3-minute charge buys 7 minutes of use – enough for a hotel-bathroom emergency. Travel Mode locks the button with a 2-second hold so it doesn’t wake up in your bag.
Laifen solves the biggest problem I have when shopping for a travel shaver: the compact ones usually feel compact in all ways, including quality – weaker motors that require passing by the same spot three or four times. Bringing bigger full-sized shavers on the road just adds to my luggage that I’m trying not to have gate-checked.
The P3 addresses that dilemma by not shrinking the part that matters.
The transparent window over the motors is pure showmanship, and I’m fine with that. It’s a skeleton-watch move on a $150-ish grooming device, and it’s more personality than this category usually gets.

The cutting hardware is identical. You are paying the Pro premium for a CNC aluminum body and a softer low-nickel foil. If you shave daily and travel often, the P3’s composite body is arguably the more sensible object – it weighs less.
