God of War has officially recast Kratos, although it could mean the series is delayed as reshooting may be required
As per People, Dave Bautista, former WWE wrestler turned A-list actor, has officially taken up the mantle for the upcoming live-action God of War TV series after Ryan Hurst suffered severe torn bicep while performing a stunt on set back in June.
Rather than waiting for Hurst to recover, Amazon MGM Studios has decided to recast the lead role, giving it to Bautista.
Production on the series began in February in Vancouver with Hurst, with four episodes potentially needing reshooting given his injury and Bautista stepping into the role.
It’s a shame for Hurst, as it was a coup that Sony and Amazon had cast him in a God of War project when it was announced back in January, as it wasn’t his first rodeo in the series. Previously, he played Thor in God of War Ragnarok. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for his performance in the PlayStation game.
This series of God of War comes from Ronald D. Moore, best known for Outlander and For All Mankind, and follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a better God and Atreus teaches his father to be a better human.
The live-action series follows the path of the last two God of War games that introduced Kratos’ son, Atreus, to the fold, adding a different dynamic against the previous entries.
Previously announced cast members include Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Island Austin as Thrud, Ben Chapple as Magni, Louis Cunningham as Modi, and Evelyn Miller as Gna.
God of War is produced in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, alongside Sony and Amazon MGM Studios. In addition to Ronald D. Moore, the series’ other executive producers
