📦 Six-inch Kindle ships today
📅 Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Colorsoft, Kids Paperwhite, and Kids Editions launch Oct 28
Amazon has introduced its most pocketable six-inch Kindle yet while adding aluminum models across the entire Kindle family.
Weighing just 140 grams and featuring a thin 6.8mm profile, this new, smaller Kindle is designed to fit into smaller pockets, especially for women. It’s still not as small and phone-shaped as new competitors like the Boox Palma 2, but it’s easier and lighter to hold in one hand than a seven-inch Kindle Paperwhite.
The new, smaller Kindle also features the Kindle family’s new flush-front design, which finally removes the raised bezel that’s been on all base-model Kindles. Amazon claims it achieved this by removing a full millimeter from its display stack. At the same time, it re-engineered the edge lighting on all its new 2026 Kindles, so now all Kindles can have a color-matched front like the Kindle Scribe.
Amazon also upgraded the Kindle with a Change Go display that promises 30% faster page turns and book-opening speeds, making it feel snappier. Battery life has also been upgraded from 12 weeks to 16 weeks.
Speaking of colors, this smaller Kindle comes in a new Ube color – which, Amazon claims, has exceeded matcha imports this year – and Graphite. There’s also a new aluminum model available for this and all the new 2026 Kindle models that adds a more premium stamped aluminum back, though it comes in fewer color options: just Alpine Sky Aluminum and Seaglass Green Aluminum.
The six-inch Kindle is the only model you can buy today and it comes with 16GB of storage for $149. Meanwhile, the aluminum version doubles the storage to 32GB for $189.
Kindle Paperwhite
Now, if six inches of Kindle isn’t enough for you, Amazon has also updated its 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite models with an aluminum option. It’s also received the flush-front and color-matched upgrades as the six-inch Kindle. The Kindle Paperwhite comes in Graphite with 16GB of storage for $199. The Signature Edition includes 32GB of storage and the new aluminum body in Graphite and Seaglass Green for $249.
Kindle Colorsoft
The Kindle Colorsoft has seen more significant improvements to its display. Now equipped with more nitride LEDs and a larger battery, this second-generation color e-reader features a brighter, more vibrant seven-inch display. Amazon also told us it redesigned the display entirely using a new reverse printing technology, and the higher-contrast screen will improve clarity. The Kindle Colorsoft is available in Graphite with 16GB of storage for $289. The Signature version adds an aluminum shell with 32GB of storage in Graphite and Fig for $319.
Kindles for kids
Lastly, Amazon added a new Kids Kindle Paperwhite and Kids Kindle Colorsoft. These devices are the exact same devices as the non-kids versions, but they come bundled with 12 months of Kids+, which includes over 100 child-friendly books, and an included art cover. The Kids Kindle Paperwhite starts at $179, and the Kids Kindle Colorsoft sells for $299.
Outside of the Kindles, Amazon has also introduced new accessories including a page-turning remote with brightness control buttons on the side. There’s also a new charging dock that’s a bit less bulky than the first generation introduced two years ago. New magnetic cases for all the Kindles, including a new Page Turn cover.
