Oops. Twitter was down for 30 minutes today due to 'internal system change'
If you had trouble accessing Twitter today, you weren't alone
Update: Twitter says “an internal system change” caused 30 minutes of downtime for the service. It rolled back the change and functionality is restored around the world.
Previous reporting: Twitter was down for more than 30 minutes today for many users around the world, with both the Twitter app and website feed refusing to refresh. This isn’t the first time that Twitter’s servers have slowed down to a crawl, although the micro-blogging website shutting everyone out like this is extremely rare.
The good news is that some messages started to get through after 30 minutes of trouble accessing Twitter. I could see my feed refresh after several minutes with a few people I follow able to post. But, according to Down Detector, there’s been a giant spike at 1:47pm ET and I wasn’t able to access Twitter without issues until 2:30pm ET.
In other words, if you couldn’t refresh Twitter today, you weren’t alone. Even when I could refresh Twitter (after several minutes of it loading) images seem to be absent. I’ll update this story as Twitter servers continue to limp along. I’ve reached out to their press line for more information.
