📅 God of War Laufey has been pushed back from February 16, 2027, to May 20, 2027
👍 Santa Monica Studio stated the extra three months will be used to polish the game to its fullest potential
🪓 The PS5 exclusive shifts focus from Kratos to his deceased wife, Faye
🤞 The delay aims to avoid launch bugs and gives the game breathing room from GTA 6
God of War Laufey developer Santa Monica Studio has announced that its upcoming PS5 exclusive that sees you play as Kratos’s deceased wife, Faye, has been delayed.
The game will now launch on May 20, 2027, instead of its previously announced release date of February 16, 2027. That’s a delay of just over three months.
In a statement released on X, the studio said:
“Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.
“With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release date to May 20th, 2027.
“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.
“On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!”
While the delay will be disappointing for some, Santa Monica Studio and Sony will want to ensure the game is as polished as can be at launch to avoid a similar fate to Marvel’s Wolverine, which was largely criticized when it released for exhibiting one too many bugs and incessant player hand-holding, and was subsequently updated to address the feedback. However, for many the damage was already done.
