➡️ The Shortcut Skinny

  • 😲 Less than 1% of Netflix subscribers have tried the service’s mobile games

  • 📱 Around 1.7 million people play Netflix games daily, but the streamer has 221 million subscribers globally

  • 📅 Netflix wants to double its games offering by the end of 2022

Barely any Netflix subscribers are playing the streamer’s free mobile games.

Netflix offers 24 premium mobile titles for its 221 million subscribers to enjoy, free of in-app purchases or ads, but only 1.7 million people are playing them daily. That’s less than 1%.

The data was obtained by CNBC from the app tracking group Apptopia, which claims that Netflix’s mobile games have been downloaded 23.3 million times.

Netflix wants to double the number of games available and reportedly plans to offer 50 titles by the end of this year.

Despite the small number of players – relative to Netflix’s huge install base – the streamer is committed to investing and expanding its mobile games offering.

During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call, Netflix chief operating officer Greg Peters outlined its strategy for mobile games:

“We’re going to be experimental and try a bunch of things. But I would say the eyes that we have on the long-term prize really center more around our ability to create properties that are connected to the universes, the characters, the stories that we’re building.”

Peters previously admitted that the company was “many months and really, frankly, years” into learning how games can keep customers subscribing to Netflix. The streamer lost 1.3 million subscribers in Q2 2022 and is rolling out a cheaper ad-supported tier in the future. The company is also cracking down on password sharing.

How to download Netflix Games

If you’re one of the many Netflix subscribers who hasn’t played any of the free games available, it might be because you simply don’t know how. To find and install games, download the Netflix App and head to the ‘Netflix Games’ row on the home screen and the ‘Games’ tab at the bottom.

Once you’ve found and installed a game you’d like to play, you’ll find it under the ‘Netflix Games’ row in the Netflix app. It may also be available on your device’s home screen or in the app drawer.
