As per a new PlayStation blog post, the Prism Collection brings three new colors for players to purchase: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray.

Sony describes Flare Orange as being “a bold and vibrant aesthetic”, Emerald Green as being “elegant” with a “silky green exterior”, and Graphite Gray as “classy” and “refined”.

Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi from Sony’s color, material, and finish design team shared more about the creative process.

“We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers. We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design,” said Leo Cardoso.

“The high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller, offering a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look.

The metallic finish on the middle cover brings the contrasting surfaces together for a premium appearance that feels consistent with the PS5 generation.

To complement the futuristic aesthetic, we carefully selected three distinct colors: a vibrant orange that subtly takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps, a deep hunter green that gains depth through its transparency, and a cool-toned storm gray.” said Satoshi Aoyagi.

Here’s everything you need to know about the PS5 Prism Collection, including the pre-order date, price and release date.

Pre-orders for the Prism Collection DualSense controllers and PS5 console covers begin on November 10, 2026, at 10am ET / 7am PT. Sony will sell the controllers directly and through participating retailers. The PS5 console covers are exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation Direct store.

PS5 Prism Collection release date

• 🚨 Our PS5 Pro restock tracker @mattswider on X sends out instant alerts

• 😬 The PS5 Pro is available, but only for nearly double the asking price

• 📈 The console remains sold out at MSRP as demand has increased ahead of GTA 6’s launch

• 🏭 RAM prices and the component shortage has also impacted manufacturing

GameStop: PS5 Pro

Best Buy: PS5 Pro

Amazon: PS5 Pro

Walmart: PS5 Pro

PlayStation Direct: PS5 Pro

After a PS5 Pro restock took place at Best Buy on October 23, Sony’s souped-up console remains sold out for its $899.99 asking price. However, you’ll find refurbished and pre-owned models at Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and GameStop, if you’re willing to pay almost double to price for a PlayStation 5 Pro.

GameStop has refurbished and preowned PS5 Pro stock for $1,399. An Amazon reseller is offering a refurbished unit for $1,599. Best Buy’s third-party seller is asking for $1,549 for a PS5 Pro, while Walmart is the worst of the bunch with an open box PS5 Pro for $1,644. Of course, this is way more than the $899.99 you should be paying.

Our advice: don’t do it unless you’re desperate. The Shortcut’s exclusive restock tracker run by @mattswider on X sends out instant alerts whenever PS5 Pro stock appears, and we’ve seen that it is possible to get Sony’s more powerful console for MSRP if you’re patient.

After Best Buy held a quick-fire restock, Walmart may be the next retailer to stock the PS5 Pro ahead of GTA 6’s November 19 launch. The largest US retailer hasn’t had PS5 Pro in stock since early September, and it typically launches new waves of the console every month to month and a half. To put it simply: we’re long overdue a restock.

PS5 Pro restock stores in the US

While we’re tipping Walmart to be the next online store to offer a sizeable restock of the PS5 Pro, Sony’s PlayStation Direct store has also held sporadic PS5 Pro restocks. They’re much harder to predict and tend to sell out extremely fast, but with our alerts you at least stand a chance before they’re already gone.

Amazon has also had the PS5 Pro stock, albeit only briefly. According to The Shortcut’s retail sources, a big PS5 Pro restock could take place at GameStop closer to GTA 6’s launch and Black Friday. The plan is that by holding back PS5 Pro stock, consumers will make additional purchases during Black Friday or GTA 6’s launch, instead of just grabbing the console.

Why you can trust our PS5 Pro restock tracker

We offer exclusive PS5 Pro restock updates with up-to-the-second US store inventory checks. Retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, PlayStation Direct, and Target are all on the restock tracking list.

Through restock alerts on X (then Twitter), The Shortcut helped 400,000 people buy a PS5 when it was almost constantly out of stock for almost two years. We’ve made it our mission to track hard-to-find items, including the Zelda Switch 2 40th Anniversary console, which launches in just a few days.

Given the fact that Black Friday is next month and GTA 6 releases on November 19, demand for the PS5 Pro will only increase. Sony will hopefully be producing more units to meet the newfound interest in the most expensive PS5, which is only going to grow if GTA 6 lives up to expectations and the PlayStation 5 Pro proves to be the best place to play the game.

• 🏆 Phantom Blade Zero has achieved a Metacritic score of 88 after 33 reviews

• 👏 It’s received 97% reviews, 3% mixed, and 0% negative

• 📅 The game released on October 29, 2026, for PS5 and PC

• 🔜 A physical version is coming next year

GameStop: PS5 Slim

Phantom Blade Zero mixes exhilarating action with classic Wuxia storytelling, and it received high praise from critics ahead of its release.

The action-adventure game is currently sitting on an impressive Metacritic score of 88 after 33 critic reviews, making it one of the highest-rated games this year.

Here’s what critics made of Phantom Blade Zero, which is available on PS5 and PC on October 29, 2026.

Wccftech awarded Phantom Blade Zero a perfect score, saying:

“Giving me the exact same feeling I had with Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6, I ultimately think Phantom Blade Zero deserves the same perfect score. While Nioh 3 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword are both excellent action games that deserved their high scores this year, I believe Phantom Blade Zero stands slightly above them, delivering an experience that may not be radically original, but is profoundly memorable from every standpoint.”

GamesRadar+ gave Phantom Blade Zero 9/10, and called it one of the best action games of the year:

“A rich and carefully designed world hides plenty of secret bosses and powerful weapons, with combat that effortlessly strikes down most of its peers. With fights that feel great and flow smoothly, Phantom Blade Zero proves itself as one of the best action-adventures of the year.”

IGN also enjoyed Phantom Blade Zero, awarding game 9/10 in its review:

“Phantom Blade Zero is one of the best action games I’ve played in a long time, with standout combat that never came even close to feeling old across 50 hours of playing. It all takes place in a sharp, unique world that I adored spending time in despite the fact that just about everyone and everything in it wanted me dead. Its tale of betrayal and revenge mostly plays it extremely safe, and some unfortunate invisible barriers and technical hiccups can cause minor frustrations – but the overwhelming majority of my time with this stunning, incredibly well tuned adventure was downright awesome.”

GameSpot was also a fan, and gave Phantom Blade Zero 8/10:

“Under the right circumstances, Phantom Blade Zero’s combat is spectacular. Its Wuxia-inspired action nails the free-flowing, back-and-forth nature of its kinetic influences with aplomb. Being able to cleave through dozens of enemies who barely put up a fight isn’t a fatal flaw, but tedium, and the fact you know how thrilling combat can be makes it a more glaring issue. It’s this misstep that holds Phantom Blade Zero back, but it’s still a fantastic game that any action aficionado.”

VGC noted that Phantom Blade Zero may not reinvent the genre, but it’s a damn good action game that players shouldn’t ignore in its 8/10 review:

“The boat hasn’t been rocked, and the genre hasn’t been overturned, but Phantom Blade Zero is a damn good action game that shouldn’t be ignored. This is undoubtedly stronger than genre stablemates like Black Myth: Wukong, and S-Game has also managed to craft one of the best-looking Unreal Engine games.”

Eurogamer was one of the more critical outlets, scoring the game 6/10:

“Phantom Blade Zero achieves its goal of creating wonderfully fluid and cinematic kung fu-style combat - but balance and quality issues ultimately dim its shine.”

Phantom Blade Zero seems to deliver another enthralling action game for those who are fans of Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong, Nioh and Onimusha. The game is available on PS5 and PC, with a physical version releasing next year.

The best PS5 controller colors include several hues and designs that cater to almost every preference. Whether you’re looking for something that matches your style or celebrates your favorite game, there are enough PS5 DualSense controller colors to suit almost everyone.

We’ve rounded up all the DualSense colors and special editions available and have ranked our personal favorites. Even if your favorite controller color differs from ours, you’ll have all the information you need to make an informed buying decision before you grab a second pad for your PlayStation 5. You can also get up to speed with every PS5 controller color released so far and how much they cost.

While every PlayStation 5 gamepad is technically identical, there are some hidden differences. A teardown showed that newer PS5 controllers have slightly more durable parts compared to the White, Midnight Black, and Cosmic Red controller colors, which we’ll explain below.

It’s also important to note that Sony raised the price of its PS5 controllers in September 2024. Pads that previously cost $69.99 are now priced at $74.99, so we’ve updated our prices to reflect this.

Here’s what we found in our in-depth guide to Sony PlayStation’s DualSense gamepad collection.

PS5 controller colors at a glance

PS5 controller price

The price of each Sony PS5 DualSense controller ranges from $74.99 to $84.99. You can sometimes pick up a controller for less, but only at certain times of the year. We’ve seen price drops for the various PS5 controller colors during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Amazon Prime Day, and Sony’s PlayStation-themed “Days of Play”, with discounted DualSense controllers dropping as low as $49.99 in the past. However, if you need a controller today, we recommend buying one now instead of waiting for these rare sales events as it isn’t a massive saving.

Overall, the high PS5 controller price point is justified because of its unique features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, something that we noted in our PS5 vs Xbox Series X comparison. Xbox controllers are cheaper and there are far more Xbox Series X controller colors to boot, but it’s Sony’s controller that has the fancier features.

An area where the PS5 controller falls flat, however, is the battery life. The PS5 controller battery life pales compared to the competition, but Sony could address that with a new PS5 controller that offers 12 hours of battery which leaked online. However, no announcement has been made since.

PS5 controller colors ranked

Sony continues to add to the previous DualSense controller colors which debuted with White, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black hues in the first few months of the PS5 console. With these recent additions, our PS5 controller colors ranked list has been updated to include all 43 PlayStation 5 DualSense colors.

According to exclusive sales data seen by The Shortcut, the Cosmic Red PS5 controller was initially the most popular in terms of sales. But we thought it would be fitting to have each PS5 DualSense color in a ranked list. Your decision will come down to preference, but let’s be honest, some of these PS5 controller colors are better than others.

Below the PS5 controller colors ranked list, you’ll find an explainer of why you’ll want a second pad (i.e. battery life and the fact that the new color models have a more durable design) when diving into the growing list of the best PS5 games in 2024.

Unfortunately for collectors, the Hogwarts Legacy controller was sold in extremely limited supplies directly from PlayStation Direct, which means if you missed out when pre-orders went live on February 10, 2023, you’re out of luck.

32. God of War Ragnarok PS5 controller color

• Release date: November 9, 2022

• MSRP: $74.99

The God of War Ragnarok controller is technically more of a limited edition design than a color, but we’re including it in this list, anyway. The two-tone blue and white color scheme is a fitting tribute to the game’s Fimbulwinter setting, and the wolf and bear drawings also touch on one of Ragnarok’s important plot points.

If you’re a fan of Kratos and want to pay tribute to the Ghost of Sparta, the God of War Ragnarok controller is the perfect way to do so. Still on the fence about the game? Read our God of War Ragnarok review.

33. White PS5 controller color

• Release date: November 19, 2020

• MSRP: $74.99

The classic DualSense look. This is the default White/Black PS5 controller and is usually cheaper than the other controller colors. It comes as standard with the PS5 console, and a second one is often forced with GameStop PS5 bundles (that’s why we recommend the Target PS5, Sony Direct PS5, Amazon PS5 restocks at MSRP without required bundles).

The design matches Sony's PlayStation 5 two-tone, futuristic look, and while it certainly isn't for everyone, the White/Black color scheme does at least help the PS5 stand out from the competition.

34. Volcanic Red PS5 controller color

• Release date: November 3, 2023

35. Cobalt Blue PS5 controller color

• Release date: November 3, 2023

• MSRP: $79.99

If Starlight Blue is a shade too light, Cobalt Blue should be more to your taste. Part of Sony’s Deep Earth Collection, this alluring controller color contains a hint of deep purple but delivers the rich blue hue many will have been looking for.

36. Fortnite PS5 controller color

• Release date: November 7, 2024

Fans of Fortnite will want to snap up this limited-edition controller that features fan-favorite characters from the Fortnite universe, including Fishstick and Peely.

37. Cosmic Red PS5 controller color

• Release date: June 18, 2021

• MSRP: $74.99

The Cosmic Red PS5 controller almost looks like a dark pink to my eye, but I suppose it qualifies as red – at a push. The Cosmic Red controller was released alongside the popular Midnight Black variant in May 2021 and is one of the best-selling color variants. Maybe I’m missing something?

38. Nova Pink PS5 controller color

• Release date: January 14, 2022

• MSRP: $74.99

I think it’s fair to say that the DualSense certainly looks pretty in pink, even if it’s lower down on our list. I took off points for the hue being so close to Cosmic Red. Still, the Nova Pink color stands out among the PS5 controller colors – it really pops. Remember, this DualSense comes with ever-so-slightly thicker trigger springs if you’ve ever had any durability concerns regarding Sony’s gamepad.

39. Gray Camouflage PS5 controller color

• Release date: January 14, 2022

• MSRP: $74.99

I’ve never been a fan of camouflage designs, but if you like the idea of owning a DualSense controller that looks like it’s made it through military boot camp, then the Gray Camouflage PS5 DualSense controller is for you. Unlike some of the other controller colors on this list, you can also pick up a matching Gray Camouflage PS5 Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, which is one of the best PS5 headsets you can buy if you’re on a budget. Sadly, while this PS5 controller color is still worth buying if you like the design, there’s no software tie-in with SOCOM for PS5, a video game we’re expecting to hear about one day if development rumors end up being true.

40. Concord PS5 controller color

• Release date: August 23, 2024

• MSRP: $84.99

This was a surprising release as Concord was a brand-new IP from Sony, this limited edition controller features elements of the Galactic Guide and Faster-Than-Light interstellar travel from the game. Unfortunately, the game has since been pulled from sale, which makes this controller a painful reminder for Sony.

PlayStation Direct: Concord controller

41. LeBron James PS5 controller color

• Release date: July 27, 2023

• MSRP: $74.99

Out of all the custom controller colors and special edition designs no one could have predicted, few will have seen a collaboration between PlayStation and LeBron James coming. The PS5 controller was co-designed by James himself, and he hopes it’s “something that continues to inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail.”

While it’s certainly a cool-looking controller and will appeal to fans of LeBron James, others may find it tacky. It’s also fair to say that not everyone is a fan of “King James”, hence why it’s lower down on our list.

42. Final Fantasy 16 PS5 controller color (Japan only)

• Release date: June 6, 2023

• MSRP: ¥8,980

Sony has teamed up with Square Enix to develop a gorgeous Final Fantasy 16 PS5 controller color that features the motif from the game. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Japan with no word on a Western release date. The controller features a delicate design and crystals on the touchpad, which are painted in bright blue and metallic gold on the Midnight Black DualSense wireless controller.

43. Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 controller color (Japan only)

• Release date: February 28, 2025

• MSRP: ¥12,480

Sony has teamed up with Capcom to release a limited edition Monster Hunter Wilds controller in Japan. It features a subtle design inspired by the pattern on the first piece of equipment you can wear, which stands out in silver on both sides of the Volcanic Red DualSense wireless controller. The touchpad has an emblem design of the Forbidden Ground Survey Corps.

How many PS5 controller colors are there?

As of 2026, Sony has released 43 official DualSense controller colors and limited editions, ranging from the standard White and Midnight Black to collaboration designs like Helldivers 2, Astro Bot, and the Hyperpop Collection.

What is the rarest PS5 controller color?

The Final Fantasy 16 and Monster Hunter Wilds DualSense controllers are the hardest to get outside Japan, since both were released as Japan-only exclusives. The Concord controller is also increasingly hard to find at retail after the game was pulled from sale.

Which PS5 controller color is the most durable?

All 43 colors share the same internal hardware, but a teardown found that colors released after the original White, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black use slightly thicker trigger springs (0.3mm vs 0.25mm), which may hold up better over time.

Is there a green or orange PS5 controller color?

Sony hasn’t released an official green or orange DualSense, though Chroma Teal and Remix Green come close to green. Official yellow, green, and orange versions are only available through third-party sellers.

Amazon: PS5 DualSense (Yellow)

Amazon: PS5 DualSense (Orange)

Does the PS5 controller color affect performance?

No. Every DualSense color has identical haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and battery life – the only difference is cosmetic design and, in some cases, minor internal spring durability.

PS5 controller colors: the benefits of owning two

Even if you only own one PS5 controller, we’d recommend picking up another beyond the desire for a fresh color. The battery life on the DualSense isn’t exactly generous, offering around 6 to 12 hours at best, depending on the type of game you’re playing. If you don’t want to get caught short mid-game, then it’s wise to have another fully charged gamepad. The PS5 DualSense Charging Station can only do so much.

All 43 PS5 controllers are identical apart from their striking colors. They have the same features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and the same middling PS5 controller battery life. You can also pick up matching PS5 covers for some colors so that your console matches your new controller.

Keep in mind that a USB cable is not included with each purchase – you’ll have to charge the controller using the cable that came with your PS5 console.

What about the PS5 DualSense Edge Controller?

Sony released a new high-performance, ultra-customizable controller in January 2023 called the PS5 DualSense Edge. It’s Sony’s answer to the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller and is aimed at competitive online gamers who want an extra edge (get it?) in multiplayer matches. We didn’t include the DualSense Edge on our best PS5 controller colors list simply because it belongs in a category of its own.

The PS5 DualSense Edge Controller price is $199.99, which is significantly more than the regular DualSense controller. For our full verdict on Sony’s pro-grade pad, read our PS5 DualSense Edge Controller review.

PS5 controller price, durability differences

There are a few differences between the PS5 controllers – besides the colors – that you should know about. The standard White controller that comes with every PS5 is usually cheaper than the colorful versions (when there aren’t special deals), making it the best option if you simply need another pad.

The newer PS5 controller colors, like Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, and Galactic Purple, feature a slightly different internal design that could make them more durable. TronicsFix discovered that new DualSense controllers contain slightly thicker trigger springs in a teardown video: 0.3mm compared to 0.25mm. However, the White, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black colors use thinner springs, which may be more prone to failure.

We say “may” because we haven't encountered any issues with the three DualSense controllers, and they all use the older spring design. Nevertheless, it's pleasing to see Sony continue to improve its design, and it’s nice knowing you’re getting the best possible version if you opt for one of the new PS5 controller colors.

What to buy after getting a PS5 controller

Once you’ve bought a second PS5 controller, read up on the best SSD for PS5. The default 825GB of internal storage (really, it’s 667GB of user-accessible storage) doesn’t go very far, so an SSD is the next big PS5 accessory purchase you should make. The new PS5 Slim comes with 1TB of storage, but even that fills up fast.

There’s also the PSVR 2 headset, but it’s a much more expensive purchase at $399.99 and Sony has yet to prove it’s serious about supporting its virtual reality accessory. If you’re asking yourself ‘Is PSVR 2 worth it?’, our quick answer is no, not yet.

Of course, keep it locked to the best PS5 games on which you can use your brand new DualSense controller color and use our PlayStation Plus discount code to get access to online multiplayer and three PS Plus free games every month.

• 🎧 Sony has announced the PlayStation Pulse and premium Pulse Edge headsets, developed with Audeze

• 👏 Both feature planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link; the Pulse Edge adds active noise cancellation and a detachable boom mic

• 💰 The Pulse costs $99.99, but we’re still waiting for a price for the Pulse Edge

• 📅 Pre-orders for the Pulse begin on October 29, with a release date of November 19

Sony has announced two new PS5 headsets that have been made in collaboration with Audeze, the high-end audio company it acquired in August 2023: the PlayStation Pulse and the PlayStation Pulse Edge.

The two headsets feature studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers that Sony says deliver “rich, lifelike sound” and “exceptional sound separation and spatial accuracy”.

The Pulse and Pulse Edge feature larger planar magnetic drivers than the Pulse Elite headset released in 2024, and each supports PlayStation Link for lossless, ultra-low latency audio.

Here’s everything you need to know about the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge headsets, including the price, release date, and pre-order. We’ll update this article once we know more, so check back soon.

PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge price

The PlayStation Pulse or Pulse Edge cost $99.99. Sony hasn’t shared the price of the PlayStation Pulse Edge, however. The Pulse Edge features eight magnets per planar driver as opposed to four. It also has built-in game audio and chat balance control for PS5, active noise cancellation, comes with a carrying case, and an audio/microphone jack.

Based on these specs, the PlayStation Pulse Edge will probably command a higher price tag of $149.99 to $199.99.

PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge release date

The PlayStation Pulse releases on November 19, 2026. Sony has shared a release date for the Pulse Edge headset. though we know it will launch in early 2027. It means we can expect a launch date of either January, February, March, or April 2027.

PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge pre-order

The PlayStation Pulse is available to pre-order on October 29, 2026, at 10am local time from PlayStation and participating retailers. The Pulse Edge is not available to pre-order just yet.

PlayStation Pulse vs Pulse Edge specs

The PlayStation Pulse Edge is being positioned as the premium audio experience compared to the Pulse, and features double the magnet volume. Sony says it will deliver “even richer, deeper bass while maintaining the precision and clarity that lets subtle details shine through”.

Unlike the Pulse, the Pulse Edge includes active noise cancellation, a detachable boom mic for improved voice chat over the Pulse headset’s integrated mic, along with a premium carrying case. Both the Pulse and Pulse Edge will be available in either Midnight Black or White.

You can also connect the Pulse and Pulse Edge to PS5, PC, Mac and Bluetooth devices. There’s support for simultaneous Bluetooth audio.

• 💰 High demand has made PS5 Pro hard to find at retail price

• 🙏 The shortage could improve if GTA 6 comes to PC earlier than expected

• 🤔 Many are buying a PS5 Pro solely to play GTA 6, but a PC port could put them off

• 🚨 Supply is still constrained and Sony simply isn’t producing enough units, but we’re tracking PS5 Pro restocks to help you get one

Walmart: PS5 Pro

PlayStation Direct: PS5 Pro

Best Buy: PS5 Pro

GameStop: PS5 Pro

Amazon: PS5 Pro

The PS5 Pro remains sold out at the vast majority of retailers, with GTA 6 largely to blame for a spike in interest in Sony’s souped-up PlayStation 5. However, a recent report revealed that a PC port of Grand Theft Auto 6 may arrive sooner than we thought, which could have a direct impact on PS5 Pro stock and your chances of buying one.

🚨 We’re tracking PS5 Pro stock updates. If you’d like to know when more stock arrives (PlayStation Direct has been the most reliable so far), follow Matt Swider on X and set your notifications on. You can also become a free or paid subscriber to The Shortcut to help support our work. 🚨

As it stands, the PS5 Pro will provide the best experience possible for GTA 6 until the PC release comes along. Some gamers have already made their peace and have been willing to wait for a PC port no matter how long it takes, while the more impatient among us may have been tempted to pick up a PlayStation 5 Pro.

But if reports are to be believed, Rockstar Games could release GTA 6 on PC as early as Q1 2027, which means a PC port is technically only four months away at the most. Considering we’ve been waiting over a decade as it is, some may rethink their impulse purchase of a PS5 Pro just to play GTA 6 knowing that the PC version is only a few months away.

• Walmart: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Best Buy - GTA 6 - $79.99

• GameStop: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Amazon: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Target: GTA 6 - $79.99

• PlayStation Store: GTA 6 - $79.99

The news could lead to more PS5 Pro stock being available long term, or at least stop the console from selling out so quickly when it shows up. Then again, with GTA 6’s popularity surpassing almost any other video game – appealing to lapsed and hardcore gamers alike – the drop-off may be insignificant.

If GTA 6 reviews well, there will also be another wave of buyers who either want to “get in on the hype” or experience the game for themselves. Rockstar Games doesn’t need any help marketing Grand Theft Auto, but positive word of mouth is always the most powerful sales tool.

Unfortunately, Sony’s supply and manufacturing chains will also still be constrained because of the ongoing component crisis. Smaller batches of PS5 Pro consoles are being manufactured, and reports suggest this will continue until 2027, with a lottery system now in place in Japan.

The PS5 Pro stock shortage is here to stay for now, but we’ll be tracking the console to help you buy one without paying over the odds.

• 📈 Surging RAM and SSD component costs could push the PS6’s price above $1,000

• 💰 Memory prices alone (RAM + NAND) are estimated to reach over $680 per console

• 😲 The cost of GDDR7 memory has spiked roughly six- to seven-fold from original projections

• ✋ Sony may need to delay the console or rethink its traditional pricing strategy for mass market appeal

The PS5 and PS5 Pro have ballooned in price as memory and storage costs continue to surge, and the ongoing component crisis appears to be greatly affecting the PS6, too.

The PS6 is rumored for a 2027 release, but the latest predictions suggest that Sony’s next console will exceed $1,000 as the price of RAM and SSD is already close to exceeding $700 – the launch price of the PS5 Pro.

Known leaker KeplerL2 posted on NeoGAF that “RAM + NAND alone is over $680”, likely pushing the PS6’s bill of materials towards the $1,000 threshold.

The PS5 launched for $499.99 in 2020, but has since risen to $649.99. The PS5 Pro was $699.99, but is now $899.99 – if you can find it in stock – and both consoles could go up in price again if the situation continues.

To put the memory price increase into perspective, Kepler2 said that when Sony and Microsoft started designing the next-generation of consoles, the price of GDDR7 memory was “projected to hit $3 per GB”. As of today, GDDR7 costs around $20 to $23 per GB. That’s a six to seven-fold spike in cost.

With the PS6 and Xbox Project Helix sporting faster and an increased amount of memory – with many believing the PlayStation 6 will have at least 24GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD – it’s shaping up to be an expensive console, even before you account for any other costs.

A delay to 2028 could help keep the PS6 price down, but that’s only if the memory crisis subsides. Right now, it’s only predicted to get worse, and it could require a complete rethink of the traditional console strategy, which used to offer a relatively affordable alternative to PC gaming, aimed for mass market appeal.

• 📅 It launches globally on December 10

• 🚨 Pre-orders open on October 22 at 10am local time, and it’ll cost $84.99

PlayStation Direct: PS5 Pro

Sony has unveiled a limited edition DualSense wireless controller to celebrate Gran Turismo’s 30th anniversary.

🚨 If you’d like an alert when the Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller is in stock, follow Matt Swider on X and set your notifications on. You can also become a free or paid subscriber to The Shortcut to help support our work. 🚨

The reveal comes alongside the launch of Part 1 of the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update, as per a new PlayStation blog post. Gran Turismo 7’s Spec IV (Part 1) update is free for all players and adds six new cars, the Sportsland Sugo circuit and new events.

The controller’s design takes its cues from motorsport and car design, pairing racing stripes and graphics with a textured, carbon-fibre-style front plate. Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi said the controller is a tribute to the journey the series has shared with its fans:

“Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile”, he stated. “This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us.”

Here’s everything you need to know about the Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller, including the pre-order date, price and release date.

Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller pre-order date

Pre-orders for the Gran Turismo 7 DualSense begin on October 22 at 10am local time. Sony will sell it directly and through participating retailers, in limited quantities while supplies last. In the US, pre-orders will be available from PlayStation Direct.

Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller release date

As has been the case with Sony’s other special edition PS5 controllers, there’s a six to eight-week lag between its pre-order date and the actual release date.

In this instance, the Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller will be released on December 10 worldwide, meaning you should get it in time for Christmas.

Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller price

Sony has attached an $84.99 price tag to the Gran Turismo 7 PS5 controller.

That sits in and around what we’d expect with these controllers, as other recent options, such as the Genshin Impact limited edition or the Marathon limited edition, have the same retail price.

• 📈 Avoid high markups: Don’t buy from scalpers or reseller platforms charging well above MSRP

• 🎯 Target key retailers: Focus on PlayStation Direct, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart for most restocks

• 🏃 Prepare for fast checkout: Save payment details, stay logged in, and enable 1-click or mobile wallet options

• ⏰ Know restock timings: Track specific drop windows for each retailer and stick to standard console offers over bundles

Target: PS5 Pro

You want a PS5 Pro and you want it now – but before you part ways with far more of your hard-earned money than you should, you may want to pause and take a breath. You don’t have to pay over the odds for a PlayStation 5 Pro if you’re willing to be patient and know where to look.

🚨 We’re tracking PS5 Pro stock updates. If you’d like to know when more stock arrives, follow Matt Swider on X and set your notifications on. You can also become a free or paid subscriber to The Shortcut to help support our work. 🚨

PS5 Pro restocks are happening, but what little stock a retailer has usually sells out fast – within a few minutes. That can make buying a PS5 Pro a frustrating and almost hopeless experience. But when the difference is between paying $899 or $1,399 and above, I’m sure you’ll agree it’s worth the extra effort to avoid paying a crazy markup.

Here’s how to buy a PS5 Pro without paying scalpers.

Prioritize these 5 US retailers for PS5 restocks

Around 70-80% of all PS5 restocks happen at these five retailers: PlayStation Direct, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.

PlayStation Direct has had the most consistent restocks thus far, all at MSRP. Amazon’s PS5 Pro restocks tend to either flash up momentarily or include an “invite request”, with Prime users gaining an advantage.

As for Best Buy, morning drops often take place between 9am and 1pm local time, while Target has micro-restocks that can sadly last mere seconds. Using the app to check out will give you your best chance.

As for Walmart, the retailer tends to announce restocks ahead of time and ties them to big game releases or events. Thursday and Friday mornings are your best bet.

Set up instant checkout for each retailer

Securing your PS5 Pro isn’t just about being in the right place at the right time – you also need to checkout fast before all the stock is snapped up. Before you wait around for a restock to happen or receive an alert from The Shortcut, do the following:

• Add your address, payment details, and phone number to the account

• Stay signed in on your desktop or mobile (logging back in will only slow you down)

• Enable 1-click checkout at Amazon and PlayStation Direct

• Use Apple Pay or Google Pay for even faster checkout

If you’re ready to go as soon as you click a PS5 Pro restock link, you’ll have a far higher success rate than someone who is still frantically trying to log in and enter their details at the checkout.

Avoid retailers and resellers

As tempting as it might be, don’t bother paying GameStop $1,400 for a used PS5 Pro. The same goes for eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and more. Not only are the prices far higher than you ever need to pay, but there are risks included, such as having no warranty or dealing with a scammer. Remember: if a price looks too good to be true, it usually is.

Learn the PS5 Pro restock timing patterns

You don’t need to stay up all night refreshing a page, as a retailer won’t want to drop a restock at 2am when no one is awake. Here’s when you’ll have the most luck.

PlayStation Direct tends to restock at 10am - 2pm ET. Amazon leans more on lunchtime (11am - 2pm ET) and evening (7pm - 11pm ET).

Best Buy prefers a morning and early afternoon restock, between 9am - 1pm local time, while Target is known for dropping restocks on the app at 6am - 10am local time.

Walmart prefers Thursday and Friday mornings, or when there’s a big release.

Don’t bother with PS5 Pro bundles

If you’ve been eyeing up a specific PS5 Pro bundle, don’t get your hopes up. Bundles are restocked far less frequently and are often time-specific. They can also include extra steps at checkout, and tend to include unwanted games and accessories to inflate the price. Stick with just the console to give yourself the best chance.

• 💰 High demand driven by GTA 6 has made PS5 Pro hard to find at retail price

• 📉 The shortage is primarily due to supply constraints rather than massive sales volume

• 📈 Component shortages and rising memory costs have led to smaller manufacturing batches

• 🚨 Retailers are reselling used consoles at high prices, but restocks are being tracked

Walmart: PS5 Pro

PlayStation Direct: PS5 Pro

Best Buy: PS5 Pro

GameStop: PS5 Pro

Amazon: PS5 Pro

The PS5 Pro has become increasingly hard to find at retail price. Sony’s more powerful PlayStation 5 is suddenly in high demand, mostly owing to the upcoming release of GTA 6, which is bound to provide the best experience possible until an inevitable PC release comes along.

However, you’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s been a massive uptick in sales of the PS5 Pro. That’s not necessarily the case, as it’s more down to a combination of increased demand, but also a lack of supply from Sony.

Let’s be real. A console that costs $899.99 – up from its already eye-watering launch price of $699.99 – isn’t suddenly flying off shelves many years later. Yes, GTA 6 was always going to help sell consoles, especially as Sony can proudly proclaim it “plays best on PS5” as part of its marketing deal – but PS5 Pro will be a fraction of PlayStation console sales.

Sony’s supply and manufacturing chains are constrained because of the ongoing component crisis, which is affecting availability and pricing. This means smaller batches of the console are being manufactured, and likely were before the cost of memory surged to unprecedented levels.

• Walmart: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Best Buy - GTA 6 - $79.99

• GameStop: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Amazon: GTA 6 - $79.99

• Target: GTA 6 - $79.99

• PlayStation Store: GTA 6 - $79.99

Sony simply hasn’t produced enough PS5 Pro consoles to meet the new spike in interest, which is why we’re seeing the likes of GameStop and other retailers selling used PlayStation 5 Pro consoles for extortionate amounts.

The Japanese electronics giant has reportedly told retailers that limited availability will persist into early 2027 and introduced a lottery system in Japan where buyers had to show 60 hours of PS4/PS5 gameplay to qualify.

The PS5 Pro stock shortage isn’t likely to end soon, so make sure you sign up for alerts if you want help to buy one.

Forza Horizon 6 is racing onto PS5 on January 26, 2027, after it was originally planned to release this year.

We already knew Microsoft’s best-selling Xbox game was heading to Sony’s console, but things have been strangely quiet. Some speculated that Microsoft may have changed its mind about bringing one of its most critically acclaimed games to PS5 after changing its stance on console exclusives. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Forza Horizon 6’s PS5 launch will coincide with the game’s first expansion. PS5 players can purchase a Premium Edition, which includes up to five days of early access and access to the new expansion.

Forza Horizon 6 was released on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, and achieved an impressive Metacritic score of 90 – making it one of Microsoft’s highest-rated first-party games.

Developer Playground Games will hope it can replicate the same success with Fable, another previously Xbox exclusive title that’s now scheduled for PS5.

Those who were quietly hoping that Sony would revisit VR for the PS6 won’t be pleased to hear that Sony has reportedly sold off all of its patents relating to VR, AR, and XR – all but confirming we’ll never get a PSVR 3.

The report comes from ZDNet Korea (via Google Translate), which says Meta has snapped up Sony’s patents that range from head-mounted displays and cameras, to how a headset processes information. Meta will take 419 patents off Sony’s hands, though it’s unclear how much it has paid for the privilege.

Unlike Sony, which left PSVR 2 to die the moment it shipped, Meta isn’t giving up on VR and AR, and recently announced its Meta VR Glasses, which are set to launch early next year for $1,299.99.

We’ve also recently seen Valve release its VR headset, the Steam Frame, for $1,059 after many months of delays. Sony launched the PSVR 2 for $550 in 2023, which may seem cheap, but it was $150 more than the original and the Meta Quest 3S, which was $299.

Microsoft never followed PlayStation with an Xbox headset of its own, instead choosing to partner with Meta for a limited edition Meta Quest 3S. With Sony now waving the white flag on its VR aspirations, it seems like virtual reality fans will have to rely on more bespoke, often expensive alternatives.

About downloading PS Plus free games

You can download all three PlayStation games – and if you run out of storage space on the internal SSD, check out The Shortcut’s expert PS5 SSD upgrade how-to guide and best SSD for PS5.

The free PS Plus games for September 2026 no longer became available from October 2, 2026 (if you added them to your PlayStation games library before the cut-off date, you can continue to play them, don’t worry). Note: these PS Plus games don’t have to be downloaded; just add them to your PlayStation games library before they expire from the PlayStation Store.

The primary reason to get a PS Plus membership is online multiplayer, but these ‘free games’ have rounded out the value of Sony’s online service. It helps PlayStation Plus compete with Microsoft’s more robust offering (see our Xbox Game Pass Ultimate review and save $20 with our Xbox Game Pass discount code) which has become a Netflix-like on-demand gaming service. That’s why PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now have merged to form PlayStation Plus Premium, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Essential.

How to get the PS Plus free games

1. Get PlayStation Plus through this discount code to save $10 (you can’t stack multiple years anymore, but your pre-paid code won’t expire if you find the deal tempting. You’ll be able to turn off auto-renew and redeem it when it does expire

2. Go to the PlayStation Plus tab on the PlayStation Store on your console

3. Add each of the four games to your library (you don’t have to download them but you do need to add them to your library)

4. You can also download them by logging into the PlayStation Store through the web and adding them to your library that way (it will be faster for some people)

You’ll be able to add the PlayStation Plus free games for October to your library until November 2. On that date, new games will take over, and you’ll lose your chance to add these games to your PlayStation library. Adding the PS Plus games to your library doesn’t require downloading them and therefore doesn’t take up any hard drive or PS5 SSD storage space.

Why you shouldn’t wait on PS Plus free games

Should you buy PlayStation Plus today for these games? While online multiplayer is essential for some people, the free games for $79.99 a year MSRP (but $45 a year with a PlayStation Plus discount code) seems like good value if you play PS5 (if you don’t have a console yet, check out the Target PS5, and Amazon PS5 restock guides along with the Sony Direct queue guide). This is despite the fact you don’t know if the PS Plus free games will be any good month-to-month.

But here’s why you should get them right away: You won’t be able to add the October 2026 free PS Plus games to your library after November 2. My expert advice is that if you don’t have a PlayStation Plus membership, get it today or before the end of the month to claim all of the PlayStation games this month and the next, and for the following ten months.

Can I keep PS Plus free games forever?

As long as you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus, you can continue playing any free games added to your library. If you cancel your PS Plus subscription, all the PS Plus free games and DLC become inaccessible.

• Check out our PlayStation Premium review 👈

There is a caveat: if you resubscribe to PlayStation Plus at any point, the free games added to your library will become playable again. So it’s worth getting PlayStation Plus if the free game is to your liking and start accumulating a nice collection.

Are PSVR 2 games ever part of the PS Plus free games list?

Sony has released PSVR games as part of its PS Plus free games membership perk before, and thankfully it’s now added PSVR 2 games to the lineup. However, you’ll need to be a PS Plus Premium member to access these games. Sony may have been pushed by Meta to offer free PSVR 2 games, which launched its own subscription service called Meta Horizon Plus.

• 🎮 Nacon has unveiled a new PS5 controller, the Revolution 5 Unlimited

• 👏 It’s the world’s first PS5 controller to have a built-in screen to allow for on-the-fly settings changes

• 🆕 Nacon has also incorporated TMR tech, plus micro-switch face buttons and lots of remappable shortcut buttons

• 💪 Priced at $229.99, it’s dearer than a DualSense Edge, but is a big upgrade on Nacon’s previous controllers

Nacon has unveiled a brand-new PS5 controller, the Revolution 5 Unlimited, and it comes with some key upgrades over the brand’s previous PlayStation 5 efforts.

The French brand calls it the world’s first officially licenced PS5 controller to have a built-in screen, which allows players to make instant adjustments without leaving their game.

Everything from audio mixing to joystick sensitivity and shortcut mapping can be adjusted on the fly, in a similar vein to the brand’s previous Revolution X Unlimited Xbox controller, while the Revolution 5 Unlimited also comes with TMR tech that marks the first time Nacon has used it in a controller.

This comes combined with snappy face buttons with microswitches inside and trigger locks that allow users to switch from a typical analog pull to a much shorter, instant click. There are also multiple remappable shortcut buttons to boot.

There are also some clever software options for the controller, such as its Shooter Pro mode, which eliminates deadzones on the analog sticks for “enhanced responsiveness, precision, and performance”, according to Nacon.

The brand is also offering the Revolution 5 Unlimited with a comprehensive array of accessories, as well as a storage case and a dedicated charging dock. It’s the first Nacon PS5 controller to feature this, so users can charge and connect it in one place.

It can also connect to PS5, PC, and Android smart TVs. There is also a mobile app for fine-tuning settings and a dedicated PC mode for sub-1ms latency.

All of its power and configurability comes at a price, though, with it sitting at $229.99, making it quite a premium PS5 controller. It’s a bit dearer than the $199.99 Sony charges for the first-party DualSense Edge.

That said, it looks like a hefty upgrade even over the previous Revolution 5 Pro that we tested, where we gave it a 4/5 score back in 2024, calling it a “tempting alternative to the DualSense Edge” at the time.

The past few months haven’t been filled with the most positive news for PlayStation fans, but Sony has dropped a new update that will universally please every PS5 owner.

Starting with Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, PS5 players can enjoy a new AI upscaling solution called Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), an optimized and streamlined version of PS5 Pro’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

That might not sound too exciting to a casual player, but QSSR brings notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5, and the early implementation is impressive.

Tech experts Digital Foundry got an early look at QSSR and captured side-by-side footage of how it improves the image quality in Marvel’s Wolverine. The difference is stark, with far less image breakup and shimmering on distant objects.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Mike Fitzgerald, head of technology at Insomniac Games, said: “Our team at Insomniac works hard to make sure each of our games is a showcase of PlayStation hardware, and we’re excited for Marvel’s Wolverine to be one of the first titles to bring this new QSSR technology to players.

“QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan’s epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5.

“Personally, I love seeing how the PlayStation tech teams continually improve the PS5 platform, and I’m excited for more games to make use of QSSR in the future!”

Jasmin Patry, lead rendering engineer at Sucker Punch Productions, added: “At Sucker Punch, we’re excited to bring QSSR to Ghost of Yōtei players so that they can experience the world we’ve created with even more clarity and detail. QSSR excels at resolving the fine details in our characters and environments and does so with a level of temporal stability that hasn’t been possible on the PS5 console until now. We’ve long wished that all PS5 players could experience the incredible image quality that PSSR brings to PS5 Pro, and QSSR is a positive step towards that goal!”

QSSR will be rolled out to more games in the future, and you can try it today if you have Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, where it can be toggled on and off.

• 👃 Insomniac Games released an update for Marvel’s Wolverine allowing players to toggle scent trails, audio clues, and nightmare roots

• 😤 The changes address widespread player complaints about handholding and intrusive gameplay features

• 🤔 Questions remain over why this feedback wasn’t addressed before the game launched to a 77 Metacritic score

• 🤷‍♂️ While the update improves the experience for new players, it won’t alter the initial critical reception

Walmart: Marvel's Wolverine

Best Buy: Marvel's Wolverine

Amazon: Marvel's Wolverine

After achieving a rather disappointing Metacritic score of 77 – a far cry from its previous efforts – developer Insomniac Games has released a new update for Marvel’s Wolverine that addresses one of the game’s most controversial aspects: scent trails.

More specifically, the new update lets you toggle the game’s scent trails, audio clues, and nightmare roots on or off, which were deemed far too intrusive by players. Previously, a patch was deployed that toned down the intensity of the scent trails.

Marvel’s Wolverine was widely criticized for taking away player agency and for too much handholding. It even drew ridicule from unlikely sources, like Mountain Dew’s social media account.

Clearly, Insomniac Games has taken the feedback to heart. However, it begs the question as to how such a high-profile, multi-million dollar project missed these glaring issues before the game shipped. I asked this very question to James Stevenson, Insomniac’s community and marketing director, on X, but didn’t receive a reply.

“Genuine question: why wasn’t any of this feedback received before the game was released?” I said. “It’s great that you’re making changes now, but I think you need to overhaul your QA/testing teams as this was all preventable.”

There are likely two outcomes: either the overbearing nature of the scent trails wasn’t flagged during development – which is concerning – or the issue was raised and ignored – and that’s far more worrying.

Still, the game is certainly better after the update, which means new players will get a better day-one experience. However, it won’t magically fix Wolverine’s Metacritic score average and the bad press the game has received since launch.
